This is one of the worst and most unfair games I've ever played. You can't have combat that's tuned to be difficult and also make it >completely mechanically broken. Hits that literally didn't connect can kill you, and direct hits to enemies will often clip straight through them. Going down the wrong corridor can mean finding enemies you're not properly levelled for, who, though skinned exactly the same as the mobs you're able to one-shot, will easily one-shot you. Some attacks seemingly strike before the animation's even gotten to the point of attacking, and whereas the player's made to stagger with every hit they take, enemies never seem to stagger at all. Every hit made on an enemy is an opening for them to strike back, while every hit taken leaves one at the mercy of the enemy's combo.
I get that "infuriating RPG" is a genre now, but at least make me furious with myself, not shitty design.

Not to far into this game but so far it sucks. The voice acting sucks, the art style sucks, the level design sucks, the controls are slow, clunky, boring, unresponsive, (aka the combat sucks) the enemy design and enemies themselves are generic and boring, the AI is horrible how did any player coming from the Souls game like this at all? Thank goodness I didn't pay for this game, I may try and play a bit longer to see if it gets any better but I don't really have the time to waste playing bad games.

The most apropriate way to describe Lords of the Fallen is: it's average. It has qualities to it, but a myriad of issues that drag it down.

Let's get this out of the way right now: this is a Souls game. A complete carbon copy, from top to bottom. If you enjoyed the Souls games like I did, there's a good chance you'll enjoy Lords of the Fallen. Objectively I see it as an average game, but I did rather like it and had some enjoyment playing it to the end just because it's one of my favorite styles of game. Beware though, while it does carry the difficult but fair philosophy and shortcut-based level design from Demon's Souls, it also fucks up big time in the control, art direction, storytelling and soundtrack departments.

The controls is this game are fucking garbage. They're slow, sluggish, clunky, and because of it sometimes feel unresponsive and kind of a mess. It tries to go for a "realistic" control, with the heavy movement and long animations for each action you perform, but all this shit just makes the game not fun to control at all. You kind of get used to it while you're playing, I know I did, but a good game never puts you through that ordeal.

The story is really forgettable. It's as basic medieval-fantasy as you can get, and I didn't give a shit about any of the characters. Hell I finished it yesterday, and I can't remember a single plot point! The art direction and sountrack fall into the same trap, standard fantasy stuff and no creativity to any of it at all.

Oh well, it's an average game that could've been alot better. Try it out, it's free this month if you have PS Plus.

...why? I ask you...why? Please tell me, why is "realistic" controls even a thing in gaming? All they do is turn the whole experience into a slog, clunky mess with no satisfaction whatsoever. This game tries to be Souls-like, desperately, but where it fails the most at this is with it's godawfully heavy, slow and sluggish controls. It's not a bad game, i'm rather liking it so far, but it could've been so much better...

It feels like they got this game to test was the hardcore Dark Souls players (those who did lvl1 challenge and no bonfire no death run) and people who agrees with everything. I find myself more frustrated then loving it.
The game needs A LOT of balancing. Some enemy's have a lot of health some that look the same low health but resurrect for some reason. Some enemy's hide behind a shield and you constantly have to use decoy to attack them and that is not a reliable way to kill them. Some enemy's attack are instant you can't see attacks coming especially range attacks. Controls aren't responsive for example you shoot the gauntlet animation ends you are in idle animation and for some reason you can't use it you have to wait for few seconds then you can use it again. Sometimes wen I press the shield button and hold it character doesn't raise the shield, I press roll back he rolls to the side, I press attack nothing happens. The camera is horrible some times it's imposible to see your char

Talking about the focusing you can't change on to which enemy your focus is with right analog you have to unfocus and then hope wen you press focus it will focus on the right enemy.
Controls are terrible and incovinient this would be fixable if developers would allow to REBIND THE CONTROLS!!!

Overal the game is interesting. Buy it only during a sale and don't bother with day one DLC those weapons suck.

In the end, it's a solid Souls/Darksiders influenced game, that probably should have been delayed for at least 2-3 months. Of course, I realize why they wouldn't want to put it out so close to Bloodborne, but the game certainly feels unfinished in many ways. Aside from the widely publicized glitches, it just feels little clunky and awkward and at times, and I think with some more fine tuning it could have been a much better game. Still, I had a lot of fun with it, so I have to give it a positive score. I just can't shake the feeling that it could have been much better.

I've only played for around 100 minutes so far: I don't actually own the game yet, but I'll be getting it tomorrow along with a PS4. Long story short: My brother got the PC version, got stuck against a boss, and so as a way of letting me try it out he asked me to attempt the boss (The Worshipper is his name, btw), while fighting the few enemies near him to practice the game. Well, after roughly 15-20 attempts and a whole lot of swearing, I took the bastard down. Needless to say, it gives the same feeling a Souls game does, but with slightly less polish and some slight balance issues (Miyazaki's team could have made that particular boss I fought way better, I just know in my mind that's true.) But anyway, the mechanics are fun, and I definitely look forward to playing it in full, starting this weekend. I expect a solid action rpg with deep Souls influence, and obviously nothing that comes close to those games, so I think I'll be happy with it in the end.

Oh, and here's the IGN review for Lords of the Fallen. After watching two reviews, I don't understand why this game is being judged so harshly as a comparison to Dark Souls. I don't want to play Dark Souls, I want to play Lords of the Fallen! Why do reviewers feel that it is necessary take away from a game's uniqueness because it doesn't match their expectations?

Editing … Going off gameplay videos it does look a lot like Dark Souls, gameplay wise and style wise. Being like Dark Souls definitely isn't a bad thing, the reason I'm not really interested is I've already played Dark Souls and I haven't heard about how they set their game apart and made it more than a copy besides that it's easier and it's on consoles that don't have a Souls game yet.

Editing … The common critique I see, is that this game does everything Dark Souls does, but none of it as well as Dark Souls does it. I like their mechanic for the risk/reward kill streaks, it will take out a lot of frustration that turned people away from Dark Souls games. Overall, it just seems like they were fans of Dark Souls and said "Hey, we can do that" and set to it without really understanding why all of the systems in play in a Souls game go together so well.
