It must have been ages since I last saw this because I had forgotten so much about it.

The story here is really sweet with two outcasts forming a strong friendship in eachother. First we have a little Hawaiian girl who doesn't seem to get along with anyone and then we have an alien who is deemed a weapon of mass destruction, they are Lilo and Stitch respectively.

Stitch lands on earth when he escapes from his imprisonment on a very sci-fi space ship and by chance he lands on Hawaii, where Lilo lives with her older sister, Nani. The relationship between these two sisters is by large the most authentic relationship I can think of in a Disney film. They fight and bicker all the time but in the end they treasure each other as they are the only family they have left after their parents died in a car accident. Their lives are closely monitored by a social worker, Mr. Bubbles, who threatens to separate them if their living situation seems unhealthy for Lilo. Things doesn't get any better for them when an alien shows up.

I had forgotten how funny this movie is. The early montage where Stitch tries to fullfill his purpose of mass destruction but being constantly dragged down by cutesy stuff and the limitations of his isolated location is great. I also enjoyed the two aliens who tried to recapture Stitch and the constant bickering, like a married couple who no longer cares.

But inbetween all the humorous bits are of course bits of tear jerking sadness such as Stitch realizing that he has no family and the two sisters getting closer to a life separated from eachother.

Although I have to say that the more sci-fi heaby bits made me lose interest whenever they came up. Especially the ending feels like it was just thrown together in a hurry. I would definitely not mind if more time was devoted to the human part of the story.

It must be given credit for sporting one of the best relationships between two characters in a Disney film but the sci-fi stuff got in the way of the parts that I cared about a bit too often.
