I should've known--Cole Phelps is really a Japanese dude in disguise. Lol.

I really suck at being a homicide detective. That first murder...blech. I'm also terrible at choosing the right option.

After watching a few more videos, I can safely say that L.A. Noire is not the greatest game ever. Each time I interrogate someone, I'm stuck with the Truth, Doubt and Lie choices for each suspect. I never understood the real difference between "Doubt" and "Lie."

There's a lot of other weird stuff. I think Yahtzee noticed most of the problems. I want to call this a great game, but meeeeeeehhhhhh...

I've never played a real police/crime game, so L.A. Noire started off awfully complicated. I mean, there's shooting and chasing and interrogations, but I'm not good at that s**t, man. In real life, I'm about as timid as Linus from Peanuts. Thankfully, the local scenery looks familiar and the noir art style is so cool. Also, the dialogue trees bring out some of the most enjoyable qualities of point-and-click adventures.

There's not much left to say, because it's a really unique spinoff for the Grand Theft Auto franchise. The style is really what drew me in.

Editing … I just was never interested in this, I haven't even seen gameplay footage and I see the internet a lot. It's one of those games I'll pick up when I see it for £5 somewhere

Editing … It's a nice value. I thought the developers did a good job at capturing the look of Los Angeles. The zoot suit style is really cool. However, it's got lots of cutscenes that aren't skippable. So I wouldn't call it the greatest, but it's still good.

Editing … Like, remember Parappa the Rapper? L.A. Noire almost has the same style of cool, but campy appeal to it. And I just love a lot of qualities in the game, but then I get hit by a lotta meh.

I forgot to post earlier, but my final killcount was 243, and my count for headshot kills was 214. Nice. I must be some sort of aiming god. I'm an aiming god.

After I've totaled another car in a chase, I like to back up and give them one final smash, see if I can land my car on top of theirs. Arrest them with my tire sitting on their neck.

I've been trying to work out more accurate labels for Truth/Doubt/Lie, as those terms have been extremely inaccurate. "Lie" is often the correct answer when people are telling the truth, "Truth" is sometimes used when people are dishonest, "Doubt" can be used when people tell the truth. Nothing I could replace them with gave consistent results, so 1/2/3 were just enigmatic concepts that I at least knew how to apply.

Good Cop/Bad Cop/Evidence. I think that's the correct labelling. So far it's proved consistent, but I'll have to keep playing and see if that changes. I don't know why they're called Truth/Doubt/Lie.

edit: holy shit I'm so right. Rockstar changed the labels in the remaster to Good Cop/Bad Cop/Accuse. I'm a fucking game design god.

edit2: Team Bondi originally planned to go with Coax/Force/Lie, which would also be better than what we got. It's also the labels that the lines were recorded to be used with.

The game's physics are tied to the FPS instead of an internal tick system, dummy mistake, but modders made a frame unlocker anyway. Problem is, it messes with car physics a bit.
Turning is a lot faster, maybe acceleration as well, and collisions can cause much more exciting crashes. Braking is much slower, and almost useless.
The mod includes a toggle to instantly switch between 30/60 (or whichever FPS you choose), and though I started out keeping to 30fps for when I drove, I transitioned to driving at 60 regardless of the physics changes.
It's quite a thrill. Maneuverability feels rather enhanced, even if it's riskier with the lack of proper brakes. Car chases are a problem though, as those tend to include a number of scripted elements, and those can get thrown off quite a bit with the physics changes. I had a guy smash into a truck that couldn't stop in time (due to the brakes) and send it flying into a gas station, exploding it and killing a hostage the perp was supposed to take. Lesson learned. Car chases should be played at 30fps.
Most exciting car crash I'd seen though.

This is what happens when you put your physics calculations under Update() instead of FixedUpdate().

It seems if you don't visit the locations in the provided order, it's real easy to entirely skip certain clues and interviews, and have no trouble solving the case (except some cutscenes will get confusing).
I tend to skip over obvious red herrings, or get my evidence in an order that makes more sense than what I've been presented, and then suddenly someone in a cutscene acts as if I completed that branch of the case. At least if I don't end the case, I can go back and finish any missed dialogue just for the XP, even if they won't help me at all :p

I finished a case without talking to what I guess was the case's most important character.
idk, it just wasn't necessary. missed out on that EXPERIENCE though
The ending cutscene was really odd. I was congratulated for outing the guy as a kiddy raper. Oh geez. I feel like I missed the highlight of the case.
