I have a bad feeling that this is going to be a requirement for understanding key plot elements of Kingdom Hearts III. It's possible I am wrong, but it seems like it might be pretty relevant to the story :/ Hmm, I'm not sure whether to read up a synopsis or not.

Editing … I always get irritated when there’s lapsed KH fans complaining about all those “handheld spin-offs,” when Birth by Sleep and Dream Drop Distance are fully-featured KH games that give you basically everything you’d want from a new home-console release, except maybe the graphics (though they're still on-par with KH2, so who cares). However, this game… This was a browser flash game. This absolutely should not be part of the main narrative. Still, Nomura constantly brings it up in interviews and says its an essential part of the story. Also, when I went to visit Japan last summer, they were selling this game’s mascot character in plush form. WHO CARES?! Why would I want a plush from this flash game when I could get a Heartless! Anyway, I’m with you. I played it for a little bit when they released the mobile version, and it’s flash game/mobile/free-to-play nonsense through and through. I didn’t even encounter any story. At some point I’ll just read through a synopsis and watch Back Cover on 2.8.

Editing … I'm going into KHIII purely for the gameplay, because I completely lost the plot in Birth By Sleep.

Editing … If it has a bunch of Disney characters in it, the story should be fairly easy to follow. Duh, Japan.

Editing … The Disney to Squeenix ratio has done a complete 180 since the start of the series :P

Editing … Yeah that's also a weird one, the Disney part was much more prevalent in the first KH. I actually took some of the villains seriously, specially Maleficent and her Dragon form was hard as balls in Critical Mode! In the following games the Disney characters all feel way too goofy and out of place, and the worlds feel like padding.

Editing … I'm pretty good at keeping track of needlessly convoluted plotlines (I'm an MGS fan :P) although I have yet to finish Dream Drop Distance. However, I have heard that they introduced a plot device that essentially ruined it all for me. Spoiler Mother fucking time travel :( That shit only works if it was there from the beginning. As it stands, it essentially acts as a big "we can retcon everything" button. So the plot is moot, anything can happen and nothing is set in stone. Super lamesauce if you ask me.

Editing … Yeah, I adored 358/2 Days, and even though any KH fan should already know sad times are abound, it still made me sniffle a little. Unlike BBS and DDD though, I don't think there's much value in it if you aren't already deep into KH, as the Disney aspect is basically non-existent. It's a damn shame it never got a full-on remake like originally planned, as it really doesn't belong on the DS, but it's a lot more playable than Re:coded. I mean, putting in Nintendo-style press-button-to-center-camera-behind-back controls just to put in the BBS menu? Ugh... When I play a game on Very Hard Mode, I don't wanna have to deal with a shitty camera. But it had some interesting ideas that would've been cool to see in other games, like bugged enemies that go crazy hyper. Of course, KH3 will probably be ignoring all of that stuff as it's starting with KH2 as a base. But they, summonable Disneyland attractions are cool too.
