So I just started playing this (actually, I'm already halfway, but the game's so short that it feels like I only just started playing), and I'm just not feeling it. I find it hard to care about the story and characters (though Mondo is quite the bad-ass), and for what's supposed to be a hack 'n' slash, there isn't nearly enough combat. So much time is spent watching cutscenes and running in circles through these labyrinthine levels. When you do finally get to fight something, there's really no challenge or depth to it. It's extremely easy to go into Burst Mode or execute a Just Guard, and then it's just mash mash mash. And mash you will, as every boss has 3 health bars. This is one of those games where I wish I could cheat and unlock a full move set to make things a little more interesting, but the fact remains that using any of that stuff would be a less efficient way to resolve combat. It's all just for show. This was one of my most anticipated games of last year, and it's really let me down.

Now playing--and I'm starting over! Gonna make sure I finish it this time.

This came in the mail today, so I played the first few missions! I'm already loving all the different features that make combat dynamic. Think it's going to be miles ahead of #Lollipop Chainsaw. I definitely need to replay some of the missions to really understand everything, though--I had just been starting to wonder where the challenge was, and then Alice kicked my ass.

After the somewhat disappointing Lollipop Chainsaw, I'm greatly looking forward to Suda's triumphant return to stylish, wild, hack n' slash gameplay (hopefully) without the sluggish mechanics.
