Kid A is the fourth studio album by the English rock band Radiohead, released in October 2000 by the Parlophone label. A commercial success worldwide, Kid A went platinum in its first week of release in the United Kingdom. Despite the lack of an official single or music video as publicity, Kid A became the first Radiohead release to debut at number one in the United States. This success was credited variously to a unique marketing campaign, the early Internet leak of the album, and anticipation after the band's acclaimed 1997 album OK Computer. Kid A was recorded in Paris, Copenhagen, Gloucestershire and Oxford with producer Nigel Godrich. The album's songwriting and recording were experimental for Radiohead, as the band replaced their earlier "anthemic" rock style with a more electronic sound.     This was actually the album that convinced me to listen to Radiohead. It was an artsy, non-sequitur piece of work that somehow combined ambient electronics, classic orchestras and grunge rock into an apocalyptic sound like no other. If Aphex Twin was the inspiration for this album, Radiohead was the band that finally pushed ambient techno into the mainstream to make rock sound like art. (Or at least that's what the American rock DJs were saying at the time.)

    This is probably the best album of all time. I know my pick for that place jumps around every week, but I wouldn't be in a state of shock if we saw this popping up on lists left and right in the next 30 years even more so than it does now. It confronts a looming, dark, inevitable issue face-to-face and represents it in a frighteningly accurate and picturesque way. It paces itself perfectly and there's no misstep in sight. Not to mention instrumentals that not only compliment the unforgettable lyrics perfectly, but also make for countless re-listens whether it be due to its overwhelming meticulousness or it's mesmerizing creativity.
