Not a single conviction. Can you believe it? It's ridiculous!

Editing … Not just there, also Australia, US … probably everywhere. A multi-culturization means that people from that culture bring their culture to those countries.

Editing … It's not spoken about much because it would require criticizing culture-religion. I've heard Germaine Greer speak on it on one of our talk shows https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hq1K3iMfH_U

Editing … That's a good talk, it raises some interesting thoughts. But also, I think, there's a bit of misunderstanding going on in that show. I don't think they all define "female circumcision", "female genital mutilation" or "female genital cutting" in the same way – otherwise, why would one compare it to beauty surgery? Cutting deeply into children's genitalia before puberty, in the "safety" of their own family, with the intent of prohibiting the woman to feel sexual pleasure for the rest of her life; some of them ending up dying, some of them getting chronic injuries from it, let alone psychological damage or, as Germaine says, a higher risk of HIV infection; not to mention that the women who grow up that way, where all the women in the community are the same, don't even have a clue that this is not a "necessary" procedure, that other women DON'T look the same "down there" … it's not really the same thing as a voluntary reduction of the labia. I don't know if that's a culture still worth respecting and "letting them do their thing". — That being said, what she says about demonizing it in such a way that it continues "underground" and by the hands of amateurs instead of medically trained people seems like a regression to me, too. So, maybe we do need to allow or even support this horrible act, but done by professionals, along with a fair injection of education so that in a few generations it will stop on its own. … It's a weird twist in my thoughts that just doesn't feel right, even though I was the one who just said it.

Editing … I haven't thought about it enough to be honest but I tend to lean against circumcision on minors. Genital mutilation is a different topic I would think, it's like vandalism if that makes any sense. I think what Greer was trying to push is that what we (Westerners) classify as "mutilation" by other cultures is seen as beauty surgery? Even so, we don't perform plastic surgery on children unless they are disfigured. I'm leaning against it, but I'm not really informed on the issue.

Editing … … They probably do see it that way or similarly – the social status seems to be a strong reason, too, if you think about a family who decides not to circumcise their daughter being shunned in their community. I have no idea why else they tolerated for so long, and how else they excused, and proceed to excuse, such child abuse.
