I guess the anime gave the game enough street cred to warrant a graphical upgrade for Steam. And it makes a big difference for this visual novel. It doesn't look childish anymore. Lol. (death of moe)

You might have known Higurashi from the Anime that came in 2007. It was one of my first two Visual Novels(the very first being Saya No Uta) and it was one of the best experiences I had with a game and showed me what VNs can do. It's arguably more violent than the anime itself and features scenes that were cut out from the anime. The characters are very well developed and the music and backgrounds help immerse you in an emotional experience. If you are looking to experience Higurashi, the first four Arcs were added on Steam. Given its price point being only 6 dollars, you can grab it for rather cheap. If you do get immersed in it, you won't regret it. You'll see yourself all the way to the end.

It's a niche visual novel title. However, it was one of the few games to blur the line between a book and a video game. Higurashi compels people to continue reading its dark, horrific tale of violence and supernatural curses.
