(spoilers) I have to say, I loved the last few chapters more as an adult. It's a lot more impressive to me now how all the little things tie together, like how Mad Eye knew to say that he talked to Snape when he didn't (cause he saw Harry talk to Snape on the map, clever). How this book came out a year after the last one I'll never know, especially since Rowling said the chapter The Dark Mark gave her writer's block. Once she got over that, she must've gone into a crazy writers frenzy. Barty Crouch senior has become a rather interesting character to me now. A lot about him has to be imagined, but although he's one flawed dude, I kinda feel sorry for him. The situation his wife puts him under is something I didn't really connect to as a kid but now I think it's fascinating. Many of the problems are caused by the fact that Barty Crouch's wife loved her son even though he was evil, so in a sense, a mother's love defeated Voldemort, and a mother's love brought him back. I also think it's so clever that the wizarding world spends a year denying that Voldemort has come back, that's more clever than having him come back in the first place! Also, Dumbledore is just one of my favorite characters ever. The way he stays so cool and collected is so awesome. The themes during the end feast speech are more powerful to me now as an adult. One last thing is that the way Harry won't let go of Cedric's body after he's brought it back made me tear up this time, I dunno if I've ever teared up reading one of these books before, I got teary for fiction less as a kid.

Just stayed up till 4 AM finishing what's probably like my sixth read of this or something. It's as good as ever, if not better. I'm thankful to have born in a time period where Harry Potter exists. It's brilliant.

Editing … Yes Silent. It's one of my top 10 things of all time, though now I'm wondering if it should be top 5. Order of the Phoenix is my 2nd favorite book after Hatchet, and I also love the first four books. The first two movies are in my top 25 favorite movies, and Chamber of Secrets is in my top 25 games. I read the first book thirteen times.

I'm going back and rereading some of it. Goddammit, it's still so good. Rowling was so good at making each chapter have a point, making it super addictive, cause you always know you'll get what you want by reading the next one. And I love how there are little name drops that become full characters later on like Lovegood and Mandagus Fletcher.

Editing … When authors drop names that won't actually become characters until later sequels I always wonder whether they already had the idea for that character or whether it was just a random meaningless name at that point.

Editing … Buffy was really good at that. I wonder if Rowling knew the horseless carriages actually had invisible skeleton horses when she wrote the first few books.

Editing … I think she came up with them for the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Comic Relief book and then made them part of the series after that in Order of the Phoenix. She had to make up a "Harry hadn't processed Cedric's death yet" excuse for why he didn't see them at the end of Goblet of Fire.

Editing … I think it's probably a mix. Sometimes it is all elaborate plotting for things later on, but just as often or maybe even more often it's just taking advantage of something you threw in at one point. I think Rowling is a bit more of the former, knowing her attention to the world, but I think it could also be a bit haphazard. A lot of writers also might be in between on something, realizing it may be useful to expand on later as they put it in, but without any explicit intention of doing so at the time.
