I've been meaning to see this movie for a long time, but what really motivated me to see it was the criticism #Interstellar was getting. People have been telling me Gravity was so much better, so I dived right in...it isn't.

But still, great film! The movie literally consists of just two characters, and the movie makes a great job at making us care about them. It's a very thrilling movie, that gives a frightening insight of what it is to be in space. This huge darkness can be a tremendous possibility of the infinite, but also a death zone with no way out.

Few holes aside, it's a powerful experience with great characters and a touching message.

Gravity is a really intense movie, I found it thrilling all the time. Good soundtrack, good special effects, good performance from Sandra Bullock (as Ryan Stone) and George Clooney (as Matt Kowalski). There is nothing I could complain about. The only thing that bugged me is that Matt Kowalski drifted into space that early. I was really happy when he suddenly appeared on the window of that Soyuz's capsule but it was just Ryan's imagination. Toying with the viewer's emotions like that isn't nice.

The only movie I've watched three times in a row :)

Even all the making of documentaries that were included on the Blu-ray disc were super interesting. Who'd've thunk watching #Sandra Bullock float around in space for 90 minutes could be that entertaining?

I probably have never been as consistently tense throughout the entirety of a movie as I was when I saw Gravity in theaters. It's really exciting, so much so that I left the theater with my arms practically cramping from how long I had been on the edge of my seat. The film's use of 3D isn't gratuitous and makes sense, and the special effects are impressive. Unfortunately, a great deal of its appeal is that suspense, so after seeing it once and once you know how it plays out, it's probably not worth another watch.

"Mom, what did you do at work today? - Well, son, Mama was in her underwear hanging from the ceiling in front of a bunch of men. - Why, Mama?! - I still haven't figured that one out."

Awesome movie! It's not perfect but it's a a very different experience than what the movie industry has been offering these last few years and I'm all for that.
Gravity should be watched on a big screen with great sound to fully appreciate it.

I'm really intrigued reading some people's critiques of this film. Some of it I can understand and even agree with, and some of it just has me scratching my head. Perhaps the most common complaint is that the movie was all style and no substance--lacking in emotional depth... I totally disagree. I was on the verge of tears on more than one occasion. I was on edge for almost every moment of it. I read some people saying "I was nervous for the first 30 minutes or so and then I just resigned myself to not caring what happens to any of the characters." That's like going to a haunted house and constantly complaining about it being stupid or "not scary" and making jokes the whole time. If you actively decide not to be emotionally invested what is clearly intended to be an emotional experience, of course you're not going to get anything out of it. Sometimes it's fun to just let yourself be caught up in the moment, and I found that was the case with this film.

Editing … There are people who're saying that? Maybe – I could be wrong, honestly – but maybe they are men who are not capable of feeling empathy for a woman / female lead. Though, I have to admit that this is a total guess into the blue from my side. Based on the fact that I don't know many men (especially on the internet) who have that ability.

Editing … They were actually commenters on Jezebel (the article was talking about whether or not Bullock's role was "revolutionary" for women in cinema), so all or most of them were probably women.

Editing … I see. Personally, I did have trouble buying her "change of mind" moment which seemed to fall too flat imo, but other than that I had no issues with her performance. … You can't please everyone.

Editing … It was a phenomenal movie and my personal favorite on the year so far... but I do agree with the people you're talking about to an extent. / ~~ Spoilers ~~ / The first bit of the movie when they're just floating around the ship was simply awe inspiring... Her disconnection from the tether and their subsequent journey to the space station were terrifying and seriously made me tense up. Once Clooney left and she got into the hatch of the ship, somehow I lost total interest. The rest of the movie just felt tedious and I can't quite put my finger on exactly why I felt that way. / ~~ Spoilers ~~ / But like I said, the beginning of the movie was fantastic enough to still drop it in as my favorite movie of the year. And also, for anyone reading I highly recommend seeing this in 3D. It was the first time I've ever actually seen 3D as a necessary component rather than a cash grab.

Editing … Yeah, it was probably the best use of 3D in a movie I've seen. The way it was implemented was thoroughly obvious, but it still added a lot to the experience imo.

Space – where shit comes out of nowhere and leaves you in the most crappy situations.

Similarly, this movie came out of nowhere but it certainly was not a crappy experience. The incredible visual FX and camera tricks are cleverly used to keep things interesting despite the "roomy" topic, and the use of (awesome post-rock) music, sound FX – and silence! – amplifies the breath-taking atmosphere captured so gracefully. What this movie lacks in the narrative, it delivers in the atmosphere. And even though I hate 3D, I have to admit: it makes great sense in this particular movie, and it is strikingly well done … (still, 3D is stupid).

It's not a perfect movie, there really are quite a few little things that do bug me a bit – but that's all they are: little things. In no way do they diminish the overall experience. This is my movie of the year.

Editing … I may have over-rated this movie. ("9.0", really?!) You shouldn't be allowed to form a public opinion shortly after having seen a movie/played a game – for your own sake. … It's still a great movie, though.

Editing … I just saw the trailer. Man! It shows all the good scenes. It shows way too much! I must point out that I was wowed by this movie only because I saw NO SINGLE PIECE OF FOOTAGE prior to sitting down and watching the full thing.

Is anyone else acutely looking forward to this? All I've seen is one trailer on TV, but the visuals are really striking and it gives me this vibe of really capturing the eerie emptiness of space. It seems really intense. Going to drag someone to go see it with me when it comes out, I think.
