I just bought it on steam for 79p. I love these old games, you can dive straight in and play rather than downloading and watching tons of cut scenes and intros and spending 45 minute's setting up your character.

I really love co-op games too. I don't like playing vs a friend, I want to play together as a team.

I hate how every Sega compilation includes the Genesis port of this game instead of the arcade version.

One of the most replayable games of all time. Doesn't take long to beat. One of the only games I remember beating in the Arcade. Sega needs to revive this franchise in a big way...with multiplayer. HD remake?

If you're as much of a fan of the original Golden Axe as I am, you'll likely find this to be an interesting read...

We still play the Megadrive game multiplayer when my friends come round for a gaming night, and the rest of the series too. Unlike modern games it's short enough for everyone to have a go, even if you beat it.

Editing … I prefer Streets of Rage but all those old games that can be multiplayer co-op are a lot of fun.

Editing … Streets of Rage is great, but the soundtrack isn't as memorable and it's easier too.

This game features one of the best videogame soundtracks and it was finally done justice in the PS2 version (too bad that one did everything else wrong). The first Golden Axe is interesting from a historical perspective, to experience an early stage of the evolution of the beat 'em up, but I think it was surprassed rather quickly by later arcade games in the same genre. Games like TMNT Arcade, Turtles in Time, Dungeons and Dragons, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, and of course the arcade only sequel, Revenge of Death Adder.
