I've had a Gamecube for like 6 years and only have Mario Kart Double Dash for it. I've played it maybe three times... I keep thinking maybe I should sell it but then I look online and I'm only gonna get like $30-40 bucks for it and honestly that's like one night out getting dinner and drinks. So then I hold onto it and stare at it sometimes but mostly it just sits in a shoebox. I also have a Dreamcast that I do the same thing with as well. But I have two games for that.. Quake III Arena and Outrigger. Oh and a bootleg homebrew version of Battletoads. But I kind of feel bad because I never play with them. It's that Toy Story complex. My main goal in life is to buy a cabin and go off grid and I imagine I'll still have my nice collection of old systems and will be able to finally play peacefully away from the internet and all the distractions and bells and whistles. Or maybe I'll get hit by a bus on my way to get some pie and it will all be somebody else's problem.

Come on guys, tell me your favourite GayCube RPGs. I feel like I've neglected this console.

Editing … -Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door has your typical "Turn-based with timed hits" Mario RPG battle system and generally improves the mechanics of the first Paper Mario. It's also funnier. A couple sections get tedious though.

Editing … -Tales of Symphonia is your typical 3D Tales game (minus free run) and is pretty solid all-around without being exceptional in any area (other than MAYBE voice acting? Was certainly good for its era), though some think several later dungeons get too puzzley. If it matters to you, GC version is 60 FPS and all the others are 30.

Editing … -Baten Kaitos has goddamn beautiful pre-rendered environments in PS1 RPG style but with the GC's power, a great card-based battle system, pretty cheesy and oft-derided voice-acting, and a plot that jumps from conventional to crazy. Also Baten Kaitos Origins, its prequel, is good as well; consensus might even be that its better though I would disagree with that.

Editing … -Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance is pretty cool and probably the most-polished, least flawed of its series (at least pre-Awakening), though not necessarily the outright best. Only major issue is the hardest mode got taken out of the western versions.

Editing … -Skies of Arcadia is a mostly conventional JRPG that really nailed the feeling of adventure and the GC version toned the original's random encounter rate way down, to general applause.

Editing … And that's about it for the really great stuff, especially if you omit multiplatform games. Some people liked Phantasy Star Online, too, but online games never appealed to me so I didn't try it. Also the official servers are of course long gone.

I'm picking a GameCube up tonight to add to my growing collection of consoles. One day I'm going to mount them all on the wall with a joypad each all on display. It'll be amazing.

The GameCube was one of the first consoles I ever played and one of the ones I will always remember and enjoy playing every once and a while. Although I use my wii to play GameCube games the library of this system is unbeatable vs all of the other 3d nintendo consoles. Also a system that has a competitive scene for one of it's games still going to today has to be good. Nuff said

The GameCube features great first party titles (with the exception of Mario Sunshine) and the most comfortable controller ever invented! The system had an acceptable price and great graphical capabilities at that time. The games looked beautiful on GameCube (some even better than Wii games). There are also great accessories like the GBA-GC connection cable or the GameBoy Player which makes the GBA the ultimate companion for the GameCube! It's baffling that Nintendo failed to implement a proper DS-Wii connection.

Like most great things, the GameCube unfortunately - well, it did not "flop" like the Virtual Boy, but it "wasn't that successful", especially compared to Wii or DS. That is just too bad. I'm looking forward to the day where Nintendo announces a cheap yet powerful console with a normal non-gimmicky controller.
