Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy VI (ファイナルファンタジーVI, Fainaru Fantajī Shikkusu?, also known as Final Fantasy III for the US-SNES version) is a role-playing video game developed and published by Square (now Square Enix) for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) platform. Released in 1994, it is the sixth title in the mainline Final Fantasy series. Set in a fantasy world with a technology level equivalent to that of the Second Industrial Revolution, the game's story focuses on a group of rebels as they seek to overthrow an imperial dictatorship. The game features fourteen permanent playable characters, the most of any game in the main series. It was ported by Tose with minor differences to Sony's PlayStation in 1999 and Nintendo's Game Boy Advance in 2006, and it was released for the Wii's Virtual Console in Japan in March 15, 2011, followed by the PAL region on March 18, 2011 and North America on June 30, 2011. The game was known as Final Fantasy III when it was first release...

Saved!Really fun and really good but doesn't hold a candle when compared to Chrono Trigger. I feel like this game has too many characters and the limited play-time did not allow the characters to fully "evolve". Everything else is superb though and I love the ability-learning system with the Magicites. Strangely enough I have already given the game a 8.0 despite never beaten it (I did play it once up to Kefka's Tower but then quit because I got stuck somewhere and lost motivation). Now that I've beaten it, I'll give it a 8.5.
-
Saved!CaffEditing … Honestly, I think FF6 would have worked better as a separate video game series.

FFVI had the best intro of any video game ever in the history of humankind.-
Saved!Gries HeEditing … I see your Silent Hill and raise you a MGS1: https://youtu.be/vj6plOoDl_s?t=6s Iconic as fuck
-
Saved!Dr EggnogEditing … To me that's just the first scene. When I think of great intros, I usually think of stuff that feels really separate from the game, like the intro to MGS2 with it's awesome music. MG1's intro shows off the graphics well, but what I mainly remember is that opening bit where you have to get to the elevator, cause I played that bit as a kid a bunch of times.
-
Saved!Gries HeEditing … Oh, absolutely. MGS2's intro FMV was fantastic, too. But on 6th gen you also had Fahrenheit, which has one of my favorite expository cutscenes of that era: https://youtu.be/l90ax6JdRbU?t=2m46s Sadly it all falls apart quickly afterwards. But man, that is one heck of an intro.

Saved!271072aEditing … All I see is shit-tier games. Here is a true master piece. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-ywD-eI1f4

Saved!Dr EggnogEditing … Let's not forget the opening scene to Spyro 4! It may not be infamously bad, but it SHOULD be. https://youtu.be/_-txiHOWK2M

Dr Eggnog wrote his opinion about Final Fantasy VISaved!Introduces far too many characters too quickly for me to care about them, the plot doesn't grab me, Kefka annoys me, and this is by far my least favorite Final Fantasy visually, plus some of the humor feels really out of place. Had to force myself to get even 8 hours in. I prefer V's Saturday morning cartoon feel and job system.

Salnax wrote his opinion about Final Fantasy VISaved! This was either going to be 1st or 2nd place. Ultimately, I put Chrono Trigger ahead because its tracks tend to work better as standalone pieces. That said, FF6's use of recurring leitmotifs and chords between songs gives its soundtrack a more cohesive feeling than almost any other I can think of. The songs for towns and regions are atmospheric, character themes are distinct and easily related to their characters, and battle themes like "The Decisive Battle" are among the best in the series. The opera scene has great music accompanying it, despite the primitive "vocals," and "Dancing Mad" remains the best final boss theme of all time, due to its combination of majesty, intensity, symbolism, and correlation with the action.

Pudding wrote his opinion about Final Fantasy VISaved! You had to play Final Fantasy VI at, or at least near, its time of release to truly love it. It's plain to see how revolutionary the game was back then, but time has trampled over it. Certain aspects of the game have aged so horribly that the game itself became an exercise in patience. Also, a friendly warning: if you're tempted to play the PS1 port - don't. It's horrendous!
Pros: Great soundtrack, superb and diverse storytelling, solid story and characters, attempts to mix things up in the gameplay department, great sidequests, lots of secrets
Cons: The random enemy encounter rate is TOO DAMN HIGH, tedious gameplay and boring combat, unappealing visuals (although technically impressive for its time), uninspired and poor level design, overly long dungeons, some of the sidequests are too difficult to track down without a guide, PS1 port suffers frequent and lenghty downtimes even for the most basic of actions-
Saved!NodleyEditing … I agree with you about the random encounters being too high. I still like it though, I think it's still a good JRPG even today. It's certainly better than most modern attempts in my eyes.
-
Saved!Firion HopeEditing … Yeah I never cared for this one either, never for any particular reason I just didn't enjoy it, stopped about half way through. It doesn't help that both it's predecessor and successor are so damned good.
-
Saved!PuddingEditing … Can't say that I have, nod. Is emulating it the only chance of playing it nowadays? Unless I own a SNES, that is. Which I don't. :/
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … As far as I know yes. It was actually the game that got me into emulation back in the 90s.
-
Saved! After stumbling with poorly received games like Final Fantasy XIII and the original Final Fantasy XIV, it’s time for Square Enix to restore our faith in the Final Fantasy brand. What do you want to see in Final Fantasy XV? Let us know below.
