Final Fantasy IX
Final Fantasy IX (ファイナルファンタジーIX, Fainaru Fantajī Nain) is a role-playing video game developed and published by Squaresoft (now Square Enix) for the Sony PlayStation video game console. Originally released in 2000, it is the ninth title in the Final Fantasy series and last to debut on the original PlayStation console. In 2010 it was re-released as a PSone Classics title on the PlayStation Network. The game introduced new features to the series like the "Active Time Event", "Mognet", and a unique equipment and skill system. Final Fantasy IX 's plot centers on a war between nations. Players follow a young thief named Zidane Tribal, who joins with others to defeat Queen Brahne of Alexandria, the one responsible for starting the war. The plot shifts, however, when the characters realise that Brahne is working with an even more threatening person called Kuja. Final Fantasy IX was developed alongside Final Fantasy VIII, but took a different approach by returning to the more traditional sty …

Saved!Damn, the Steam version is fucking terrible. I'll just emulate instead
-
Saved!LizardTaroEditing … You need the Moguri mod to make it look good. But even then, it is inferior to the original PS1 version due to some new bugs and inaccuracies. Also it can randomly crash when you get in a fight, resulting in a black screen with the music still playing.
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … I knew within minutes it sucked. They changed the translation. When vivi drops his ticket the little girl says "you dwopped your ticket" in the PS1 game like a child might say, but they corrected it in Steam. It's just not the same, it looks kinda the same but it's all wrong underneath.
-
Saved!LizardTaroEditing … Huh, interesting... they didn't change the German translation at all, thankfully. It's just as perfect as it was when it first came out <3
-
-
Saved! And I shall change Princess Garnet's name to Lil'Dag. That's her rapper name, baby.
:-P -
Saved!OH MY GOD IT'S GETTING AN ANIMATED SERIES?!?!
UNBELIEVABLE!! So looking forward to this!! -
Saved!
-
Saved!I've played some more Steam FF9 and I keep wishing I was playing the PSX version. I've thought about switching but I'd have to start again, and I'm already through the ice cavern. I might stick with it just for the Steam achievements, I enjoy getting those.
-
Saved!LizardTaroEditing … The updated character models and special effects are literally the only good thing in the "remaster"... though I wouldn't call it a remaster at this point...
-
Saved!LizardTaroEditing … The PS4 version is the same so far as I know. A real bummer that they couldn't upgrade the pre-rendered backgrounds, it would have looked absolutely beautiful...
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … Aw :( What's the UI like? If it's like the Steam version I@ll not be buying it for sure.
-
Saved!LizardTaroEditing … It's the same, I'm sure of it. This "remaster" was pretty much built for smart devices so the menus are the same on every version.

Saved!Who got the most jump ropes then?
I did it yesterday and got 55 straight off, not bad considering I was drunk. I've never gotten 100 though, not even close, maybe 80.
It's right at the beginning of the game and you can try as often as you like if anybody fancies a challenge? Winner gets bragging rights as the best skipper on Favslist.-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … I've gotten 200 and something before. Could never get more than that. You get a pretty sweet Alexandria card for your efforts.
-
Saved! The Steam game is alright but it can't compete with the original PS1 version. The menu is all wrong, it doesn't work, I'll trade the improved visuals for the original menu any day.
Even though it's 18 years old with a shitty menu this game is still a fucking 9/10. What a game this is, so, so good.-
Saved!Husky WingEditing … I haven't played the game, but how's this? https://www.nexusmods.com/finalfantasy9/mods/11
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … It looks better but what's wrong with this? https://www.thefinalfantasy.com/gallery/screenshots/ff9/dynamic_previews/ff9-screenshot-battle-3_scale_800_700.jpg
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … That is an awful picture, it was the first I googled. The original game looks far better than that.
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … Whew, somebody on Favslist agrees with me. I was all set for another 9 year battle believing I was the only one right!
-
Saved!LizardTaroEditing … It's a shame that all the beautiful backgrounds don't exist in their original resolution anymore...
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … The gameplay and story is still there though. Let's all agree the Steam version is inferior despite "visual improvements".
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … 7, and 9 are the best by far. 8 is so close to being the best ever but is flawed. The rest are eh, rpgs, played tons of 'em.

Saved!Playing FFIX. Got cocky by not buying very many items cause it's an easy game. Ran out of phoenix downs in Gizamaluke's Grotto and had to run back to Lindblum as just Freya. For a moment there FFIX turned into Etrian Odyssey. Hardcore shit.
-
Saved!Dr EggnogEditing … Oh yeah, I dunno if I told you guys but this is in my top 25 games now. I completed a third and fourth playthrough this year and have now gotten as much out of it as VIII, X, and Tactics: WotL.
-
Saved!Dr EggnogEditing … My first playthrough's a bit of a blur. I blasted through in two weeks. Back then I liked the cast more but wasn't as into the setting and plot and FMV as I am now. How easy the game is has been gradually growing on me. You get SO much EXP, but it's not quite so easy that it's boring. It helps that the final boss is a bit challenging, so nothing you do is really pointless, since eventually you're going to have to face that.
-
Saved!Odyssey RPGEditing … oh man the final boss was cancer, good times tho i love when the final boss actually feels like a 'final boss'
-
Saved!Dr EggnogEditing … I wouldn't say cancer. I blasted straight through the game on my fourth playthrough, rushing good, and the only thing I had to do to prepare for the final boss was go through the final dungeon a second time. It's still the game's toughest story boss, but V's final boss takes a lot more grinding.

Saved!Booted up my old FFIX save. I forgot about all that Terra stuff. How did I beat the game in 40 hours the first time? Now I'm at 40 hours and still on disc 3. I don't find the battles fun, they're so slow and clunky, thank goodness they give lots of exp. This music is outstanding: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1kNuPj2vO8
-
Saved!Dr EggnogEditing … Sorry I actually meant this track. They're similar and I like them both but I like this one more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZtrK5cf-hQ

Saved!Final Fantasy IX on PC worked today. For some reason.
Anyways, let's get to my first impressions!
This game works fine with the DualShock 4 and DS4Windows. The buttons are automatically assigned. Strangely, the O button is for "confirm" while the X button is for "cancel" - it is usually the other way around. Swapping the buttons in the game's options worked for me.
The text font is really boring and generic. The sound effects are strange: they sound somewhat different from the original. I especially noticed this with the sword slash. It doesn't sound nearly as epic as in the original, as if it was cut off for some reason. The German text is unchanged and uses the old German spelling (before the German orthography reform of 1996). Yes, the backgrounds are blurry but it isn't as bad as I thought it would be. The character models look really nice. I discovered new details that I'd miss in the original PS1 game.
What bothers me is that there's an exclamation mark symbol when standing next to NPCs. In the original game an exclamation mark symbol would only appear if there's some sort of secret item to find (or a switch to execute). Every time I stand next to an NPC I don't know whether there's a secret item on the ground or if I'm interacting with the NPC.
The CGI sequences look amazing, the video quality is much better than in the original PS1 release.
Well, that's it for my first impressions.
