Imagine if the DualShock 2 controller could plug into a PC. It would be the most powerful thing on the planet. Well thanks to Steam, the PS4 controller can work with any laptop or desktop, making it a f***ing beast. It doesn't need any special wireless adapter--it just works with any micro-USB cord connection. Steam even set up options to set the color of the glow light on the back, so it's like a rave glowstick controller thingie.

Is it really harmful to its battery if you keep a controller constantly charged or is that merely an urban legend?

Editing … It used to be the case when the batteries of phones were made out of worse quality materials. It has not been true in around six years. If you didn't get a super cheap chinese version of the controller, you can keep it constantly charged.

Today I manually disabled the dualshock 4's light bar to increase its battery life and I also exchanged its thumbsticks with the ones Microsoft uses for their Xbox One controllers.

    Rockshard would've been proud.

Swapping the thumbsticks for Xbox1 versions is basically the same thing but you unscrew the logic board and then pop in the new sticks.. takes maybe an additional 5-10 minutes and costs ~$5

$15 and youve solved the biggest issues with the DS4!

I don't think I realised just how huge an improvement this is over the Dualshock 3 until I tried to go back to playing my PS3 for a bit.
Now I'm wishing PS4 was backwards compatible just so I could use the new controller with my old games.

Editing … The Dualshock 3 always felt pretty small in my hands whereas the 4 doesn't, it feels ergonomic and the triggers feel way more natural. The touchpad and light bar seem like unnecessary features to me but other than probably wasting some battery life in the case of the light (and you can turn the brightness down to mitigate that a bit) they don't hurt the experience at all so it doesn't bother me. Obviously Sony have kept the left stick level with the right which isn't the layout I like and because of that I have a slight preference for the XB1 pad over the DS4 but that's no big deal and there's very little in it compared to the gap between how much I liked the 360 pad and the DS3.

Editing … Good news everyone! If you're happy enough playing with a cable you can use a DS4 with a PS3 after all (for some reason it doesn't detect you pressing multiple buttons/directions at the same time but so far that's only stopped me sliding down the ladders in Dark Souls).

Editing … As far as I know, the DS4 compatibility with the PS3 is hit or miss. Doesn't really bother me as the DS3 has a much longer life span.

Well this is a bummer, my left thumbstick has started to peel apart. I've got plenty of DS3's that are still running great after nearly ten years... and this controller craps out on me not even two years in. I'll have to try and contact Sony Support tomorrow to see if I can get it replaced.

How to pair a Dualshock 4 to Bluetooth for wireless play:

To put the unit in pairing mode you hold Share button (first) + PS button,
the controller will start double blinking white LED. You should then be able to find it unter “Add BT Devices”

-> If I buy a Bluetooth usb adapter and then follow the steps mentioned above, will my PC recognize the Dualshock 4 ?

So to trick your PC into thinking the dualshock 4 is actually a xbox 360 controller (XInput API) you apparently have to download some drivers from pcgamer.com.

What happens if I simply connect the dualshock 4 - which supports the Direct Input API - to my pc via micro usb without downloading anything?

Can I map all PS4 buttons in PCSX2 just like I did when I configured my PS 2 controller for the first time on my PC?

    edit: tomsguide.com/us/connect-ps4-controller-pc,news-17952.html
I just ordered a 3 m long usb to micro usb cable, let's see if this works...
