    I've just realized something.
So, notifications normally give us a dopamine response. People love feeling the vibration of their phone, the ding of an incoming text, the pop-up message informing us that something's just happened and it's just for us.
But the only notifications that make me feel rewarded are the ones that I don't see until I choose to. Email, Twitter, Favslist, Steam. When an application offers notification alerts, I disable them 90% of the time, because I really don't care until I decide that it's time to check my email, or to see what's up with Twitter. I don't even keep my phone on when I'm at home, because I don't want to be hear it vibrate or see any lights go off. When I get a text while at home, I just get annoyed. When I get any alert that a friend's come online or entered a game, I'm annoyed again.
Texts while I'm out are fine though. Maybe I always like to be connected. I don't text frequently though, and really only use it to decide on meeting spots when someone wants to chat.

Editing … Having all of my Steam notifications set to silent (and most just turned off completely) also makes it so cutscenes in video games are never ruined, and movies watched in fullscreen are never interrupted. Plus, I just find it stressful to hear the repeated dinging of a message when I'm switching between chat tabs or windows.

What small things give you a dopamine rush? What are some uncommon things, things that are practically unique to you that we might not understand that give you a dopamine rush?
