I still remember the joy of hooking up two PlayStations to separate TVs and sitting back to back playing this over LAN cable with my brother. It was and still is an excellent shooter that's heaps of fun in both single player and multiplayer. It's tough not to get nostalgic over this one. Classic.

Editing … A 7.5? Ye should be banished to hell for such sacrilege, heathen! Seriously tho, Doom holds up so well for a 20+ year old game. It's probably aged better than Half-Life, and I love Half-Life dearly.

Sitting down and beating Doom in one sitting with my brother, handing the controller off in between levels. I'm not sure why his birthday party turned into that but I'm glad it did, happy b-day bro.

Back in the days, this was THE game we all wanted to play. I used to proudly show the demo to friends until I finally got my hands on the full version. What a classic! Fantastic fast-paced gameplay with a cool ambience, superb graphics (haven't aged so well unfortunately)... simply put, the most badass game of its time. still fun to play today. You can't call yourself a true gamer without playing this one.

Dude, it's a 3D first-person shooter that's all about a space marine shooting zombies. And aliens. And it has a heavy metal soundtrack (well, in cheap computer sounds). It's everything that a rock fanatic could ask for. If only other FPS games could provide the same classic formula of awesomeness.

With a more atmospheric feel that Doom II, Ultimate Doom has it's own place. Definetly worth playing before you try Doom II. Except Thy Flesh Consumed, a bonus episode exclusive for Ultimate Doom. The first two levels of it are unusually hard, and why certainly beatable, it's not for the faint of heart.

Doom is a game that took the formula established by it's predecessor Wolfenstein 3D, and made it ten times more advanced, ten times bloodier, and ten times more badass. Doom got everything right that it needed to get right, the guns were empowering without making the game too easy, the art direction was focused without being samey, the mechanics were simple without being shallow, and the music....okay, the music was basically ripped off from Metallica and Pantera, but the game is still fucking incredible.

Few things are as cathartic as blasting imps with a shotgun after a long, hard day of hating your boss.
