Donkey Kong (ドンキーコング, Donkī Kongu?) is a platform game developed in 1994 by Nintendo for the Game Boy handheld video game system, which also contains puzzle elements. Donkey Kong is loosely based on the 1981 arcade game of the same name and its sequel Donkey Kong Jr. The game was known under the working title Donkey Kong '94 before the release. Like in the original arcade and NES version, the player takes control of Mario and must rescue Pauline from Donkey Kong (who are both given updated character designs for this game). Donkey Kong Jr. makes a guest appearance in the game on some levels, helping his father hinder Mario's progress.     A great game, made greater by watching the movie, "The King of Kong." I've seen record holder Hank Chien play this game...he was so casual. About an hour into playing, be looked away from the machine for several seconds and casually asked his wife to bring him a soda. Such calm...amazing to see. Miyamoto's first masterpiece.

    I still think that the Game Boy version of Donkey Kong is an underrated classic. I can't remember any other platformer game with such a wide variety of puzzles and levels as this one. The jumping challenges are tough. The music and sound effects carry an awesome old-school vibe. I'm sure that people still love the Donkey Kong Country games, but I still think the Game Boy version was one of the best, if not the best.

    This is one of the best Platformers I have ever played. For a sequel to an Arcade, this is pretty damn impressive! It's also really challenging and you will need your Brain more than in any other Game. If you haven't played this Game.....You should...do it Now!.....Okay I'll wait.....

    The original Donkey Kong arcade game saved the fledgling Nintendo from absolute obscurity. Other than giving both main characters entire franchises, Nintendo remade the original and released it on the Game Boy. However, the Big N added in a whole lot more than the three neverending levels. After completed said levels, the game opens with an overworld and a ton of mechanics and levels. This full-scale remake is notable in gaming history as the grandfather to the "Mario VS. Donkey Kong" series, released on the Game Boy over a decade later. Mario felt much more nimble and had a few new tricks up his sleeve, including a backflip jump and a handstand jump. Overall, the game is frustrating, but still enjoyable even if you're prone to anger.

    Excellent update that does a lot to flesh out the mechanics and universe of the original game while retaining the same feel and approachability. Mario is a lot more nimble (though it takes a while to get used to his moves), and the newly added puzzles are challenging enough to be rewarding, but not so much as to get you stuck on a level for hours on end trying to figure it out. As usual for Nintendo during this time, the game does a great job of easing the player into each new gameplay element before exploring it in depth and upping the challenge. The one thing that let me down a bit was the sound design, hearing that same annoying jingle speeding up when doing timed puzzles gets old quick and I eventually muted the sound.

    A great update of the original arcade game, with many more levels and puzzle fun. An underrated classic.
