I'm not saying it's perfect, but it still looks and feels slick, man.

Devil May Cry may have started out as a Resident Evil game, but at some point it became its own entity. However, thankfully, in the process of becoming its own franchise it never did fully sever all the ties with the Resident Evil franchise, making it a somewhat strange mix that simply works.
Pros: Impeccable art direction, oozes atmosphere, surprisingly interesting lore, great music, stupendously cheesy in all the right ways, great pacing and variety in both locales and gameplay, better than the sum of its parts, lovely remnants of RE franchise
Cons: Bad camera can get in the way of action and is especially troublesome during platforming sections, poor platforming, simple combat, repeated boss fights

Just finished DMC again since about 10 years or so ago. It has aged surprisingly well considering it's the first in the genre, but Bayonetta and Ninja Gaiden Black really take it to the next level. Still a classic though!

Since I finished Bayonetta I might as well go back and clear the HD collection of DMC. I forgot how powerful the shotgun was, they should have named it 'ghost exploder' because it just murders those hedgers....

Ah, DMC. A classic. Let's quickly go through everything. Looked good. Combat was challenging but rewarding. It was drenched in atmosphere. Set up what would be a great character. Now that we have the positives let's talk about negatives. Platforming is bad but there isn't much of it. Story shows up and then just leaves with little things tying it together. Voice acting can be bad at times. THE UNDERWATER SWIMMING. Some may complain about the reuse of boss battles but they make sense. That's all I can really say. It's a fantastic game with some little problems. After this could we hope they would make an all around better game with the sequel? Nope, we got DMC 2.

Devil May Cry is a Hack 'N Slash game with horror elements and a protagonist whose tongue is as sharp as his sword.

Playing as Dante, the half demon son of the legendary Dark Knight Sparda it's your mission in life to keep the humans safe from the hounds of Hell sent by Mundus, a demon of such great power he can create life as easily as he can take it.

With two handguns - Ebony and Ivory, and his sword - The Rebellion, you'll skillfully and more importantly - stylishly fight through an army of demons through a dark and atmosphere heavy castle. It's not all about fighting though. You'll have to solves puzzles and find keys ala Resident Evil, which isn't surprising as DMC started life as Resident Evil 4.

With 20 missions and boss battles that include giant eagles, giant lava tarantulas, 50 foot living statues, and an above average difficult you won't be bored with Devil May Cry for a long time.

Only downside to this game is the lack of Bloody Palace shown in later installments.

Devil May Cry is hard to play, but the intensity acts as a great stress reliever. There's nothing more enjoyable than taking out all my anger on a bunch of ugly-looking demons. The 3D movement system drastically improved the controls of many modern action games.

While DMC3 may be the best in the series in terms of gameplay, the first DMC was one of the earliest titles to really show the power of the PS2 in style. Very influential on action games to come after.
