    Saved!
I tried to save a #Deer today. I was floating down a creek in my kayak and noticed a deer stumbling in the water up ahead. He couldn't stand or walk and by the time I reached him he was so exhausted that he was just sitting in two feet of water with his head sticking out. We checked to make sure he didn't have any fishing line or rope stuck around his legs and checked for any gunshot or arrow wounds but found nothing. I ended up dragging him out of the water and into a sunny spot so he could dry off because I've heard of animals getting stuck in the water and just having the pure cold of the river take out all of their energy. Waited about ten minutes and he got a bit livelier but still couldn't get himself up. Ended up having to leave him to continue down the river but I hope he managed to right himself and get on his way or at least died peacefully instead of drowning in the cold river. I hope he appreciated the effort.

Editing … @Filly - I stopped on a highway and saved a turtle once. xD : @Tante - After some research I think he had Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease which is unfortunately common in NJ. However I shot an email over to the Division of Fish & Wildlife giving them the heads up if they wanted to go test him. Haven't heard back yet.
