I used to love this series. Then I read through the manga so I could get the full story and loved that too. I considered this a favourite. I've just finished watching through Elfen Lied for the first time and now I'm just sad. To call this series an Elfen Lied ripoff would be like calling the sun tepid. I feel like I just watched my fictional son fail all his final exams and develop a prostitution-funded drug addiction. Disappointment.

Editing … Personally, I wouldn't be that harsh, but it is disappointing compared to the raw OAV style of Elfen Lied.

Editing … Really? I think Elfen Lied is only a bit slightly above Deadman Wonderland, actually, since DW has Shiro, I think I enjoyed it a bit more. But I never thought about comparing them. DW isn't really horror, it's a shonen battle that's a bit bloody. Elfen Lied is a Party Gore... Also Elfen Lied is probably on my top worst manga art, which reduces some poins. (Although Neuro is also on that list and I absolutely love the manga)

Editing … I'm not really talking about the quality, like I said I loved it before, it's just that I'm now seeing there's not a single shred of originality in Deadman Wonderland and it's really disappointing. Deadman Wonderland is only good because Elfen Lied was good.

Editing … But quality is important, most ideas have been done, it's not like Elfen Lied is the most innovative horror story of all time or anything. I mean, my least favourite manga #Lost+Brain is just a copy of Death Note, but that's not why I hate so much, it's because despite copying the ideas of a great manga, it delivers it in a horrible fashion. If Death Note didn't exist, Lost+Brain would still be shit. DW isn't a 10, by all means (as matter of a fact, it's an 7~8, and that's a fact, you heard it here first) but it still delivers a quality manga by itself. And I am someone who read DW after reading EL

Editing … Oh I know what you mean, but there's a difference between strong influence and ripping off entirely. Even ripoffs can be good as long as they do enough on their own that's good, but DMW doesn't even try. Shiro is literally just Lucy with white hair, there's not a single element of her character or backstory that wasn't pilfered from Lucy, like she likes sweets and is more hyperactive and that's it. And like Lucy is in Lied DMW's story is centred around Shiro so it's a big deal. And the confrontation at the end man... they even stole the "personality A, personality B, they're both Lucy/Shiro, aren't they?" line near enough ad verbatim, I groaned aloud when I heard it in Lied. I can't credit DMW for being good anymore because it doesn't do anything it deserves credit for. Carbon copy.
