Dead Island 2
Dead Island 2 is an upcoming action role-playing survival horror video game developed by German developer Yager Development and published by Deep Silver for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It is the sequel to 2011 video game Dead Island and the fourth installment in the Dead Island series. The game's main storyline is set several months after the events of Dead Island and Escape Dead Island. Unlike its predecessors, which took place on islands as the titles state, Dead Island 2 takes place in locations in California. Dead Island 2 features a new massive world. The game takes place in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and an undisclosed third location in California, unlike the first game which was set on the island of Banoi off the coast of Papua New Guinea. The game's combat has different mechanics than Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide, being much more brutal and featuring deadlier, but more fragile zombies. Dead Island 2 also includes several features from its predecessor …

Saved!Guys, get on CDKeys if you want this game I just pre-ordered the gold edition for only £25.
-
Saved!Husky WingEditing … I wouldn't normally say that one game makes an entirely distinct game feel pointless, but I've kind of felt like Dying Light was such an evolution from Dead Island that there just wasn't any value in playing Dead Island anymore. Is Dead Island 2 really a particularly good game? I kind of just expected it to feel like Dying Light but worse, as I think it's still using the combat system designed for Dead Island and then improved for Dying Light, which would just make me want to play Dying Light instead.
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … I don't think it works like that or nearly every game would be obsolete and not fun anymore within a year or so. Anyway, I love Dead Island, I was always going to buy 2 no matter what. Fuck Steam and their £70 though.
-
Saved!Husky WingEditing … Well it's like, even when one GTA improves on another, the previous one still has its own kind of fun to offer. But I don't think Dead Island has *anything* to offer that Dying Light didn't do a hundred times better. It's more like playing the alpha version of a game when you could be playing the final product.
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … I prefer Dead Island to Dying Light though, I find it more fun. I like the bright colours and the Island and stuff.
-
Saved!Husky WingEditing … I think you're not alone. Don't understand it myself. But even though it has fewer mechanics than Dying Light, at least it's not as limited as Zombi U.
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … Zombi U sucked. I'm playing Dying Light now it's not a bad game to be fair. I do like it.
-
Saved!Husky WingEditing … I see it as a more feature-rich Dead Island. It's the same developer as the first Dead Islands, bringing over the same combat and crafting systems, but with more options and more content, more zombies, deadlier zombies, and the amazing parkour mechanics. I said this back when I first played Dying Light, the game just feels so liberating. Like so many games will have me wishing I could climb something, dropkick, stomp, sprint into a crouching slide, and this game has all of that and a little more. So when I look at Dead Island, I just see the same combat mechanics... and none of the other toys, in a much more limited open world. That would be fine if the game had something else exceptional or interesting to offer, like a great story, but I don't think it has anything to set it apart from Dying Light other than that it has *less*.
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … I'm not a fan of parkour at all, I think that's the biggest thing I dislike. I just like to hack and slash up zombies.
-
Saved!Husky WingEditing … :O

Saved!Damn, it's released on Steam the day before Fallout London, and a week before I go to Spain for a fortnight. I was really looking forward to this one but it's not even going to be a day 1 purchase.
I'll buy it once I've got bored of Fallout I guess. Or maybe I'll just wait until the price drops. -
Saved!Last Friday Dead Island 2 was released! For those of you that don't know I'm one of the developers that worked on this project. It's been an incredible (and somewhat surreal) experience watching Players have a great time engaging with our brutal combat system, and dispatching our undead in creative and skillful ways.
I also had the opportunity to talk to VGC about the game's release and making zombies -

Saved!NodleyEditing … I started Dead Island again after seeing Many A True Nerd do a video on DI2. The original is amazing if you know how to play it properly, it can get boring if you're just randomly running about. I hope 2 is as good, it will be in my top 10 games if it's better.

Saved! The game that I have now spent over four years working on is finally coming out in just 5 months! I had the incredible opportunity to be part of the reveal at Gamescom, where in addition to having DI2 close out Opening Night Live, I also got to present the game to the press with a hands-on demo. As a developer it is an incredibly rewarding experience getting to watch people play and enjoy the game.

Saved!NodleyEditing … Well, Dead Island is one of my favourite games so you really gotta get this one right or you shall face my wrath! You don't wanna mess with me, I know lots of rude names I can call you.
-
Saved!KlemoibEditing … Oh wow congrats! The game actually looks very good and I'm not saying that to be nice. I really like the pretty ferris wheel. I can't stand gore but I would not mind a game in this world without zombies and with happy ferris wheel rides at night. :-D Do you feel relieved a bit now that it's almost done? What did you work on mostly?
-
Saved!KalibooStewEditing … @nod - Hey I'm glad that fans are passionate about the series. Without that passion there’s no way that the publisher would have continued to invest in the franchise and no way I would have been able to work on such a fun project. In terms of specifics that have changed from the original I'm afraid I can't talk about that as Deep Silver have asked not to share those details at this time. And those guys sign my cheques so I've got to play it by the book! There are a few interviews out there with the project directors that confirm certain aspects, so get googling if you're truly curious. I can’t wait until we’re able to release uncut gameplay footage as I think fans are going to be pleased. What I can say is that we had about 200 people play through the demo at Gamescom and there was a lot of positivity. I expected the press to be quite reserved / jaded / stone-faced to not give anything away, but we had people who while playing vocalised genuine excitement when experimenting with the combat system and facing off against various undead foes.
-
Saved!KalibooStewEditing … Thanks Klem! I am the project's Technical Enemies Designer, which basically means I do whatever I can to make it fun to hit zombies. So probably not the things that you’re liking the look of xD I deserve absolutely no credit for the pretty ferris wheel. Our Art team is crazy talented though! I think that I feel relieved… I’m not sure though – I think I mostly feel excited :D After demoing the game to Rock Paper Shotgun they wrote an article describing me as “an enthusiastic man” which I think is rather apt!
-
Saved!KlemoibEditing … I guess you're a little bit internet famous then. :-) It seems rewarding to make something together with a team and then sending the game into the world. You can always point at that and say you were part of that. That's so cool. Your name will be on the credits and everything! Oh yes then maybe I'd like the game better without your contribution. :-P but I can see the enemy part is well executed even though I don't like zombies. The zombies look surprisingly happy and chill when they get smashed and fly up into the air. It seems to be a lot of fun. I think if you do gore it should be buckets of blood and guts like this but it’s also a guarantee I’ll stay miles away from such a game. But I think that’s a good thing. You can never please everyone nor should you try to. I think developers should make games that hold true to their vision. Then the game will be internally coherent and it will naturally attract a certain type of audience who appreciate that. If you try to please everyone you’ll probably end up making a game that no one likes and you hate making as well. I guess the dead island 1 fans will be happy to get another game. But maybe they will also be your harshest critics who knows. :-P Fanboys are always fussy. I know I am with the franchises I like. Hopefully they will be happy with the sequel.

Saved!Filly VanilliEditing … Did the team bring back the fantastic third person animations from the original game? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXmZX8iz2SE One of the longest running inside jokes with my friend group is the time we were partied up playing the first game, and right at the beginning, one of them kicks a beach ball and just inexplicably, instantly dies. Those damn unpredictable beach balls
-
Saved!ExplojinEditing … Man, I remember playing your LBP levels. You got a sale, I'll pick it up to see your name in the credits. I gotta play through the first one now, I bought it a month or two ago and it's been sitting on my shelf. Trailer makes it look fun, looks like an action packed gamey game.
-
Saved!I'm one of the devs that's working on this game. I look forward to showing off what the team has accomplished!
-
Saved!ExplojinEditing … I remember playing your LittleBigPlanet levels years ago, glad to see your success.

Saved!Gries HeEditing … Just read on eurogamer that Yager will be fine, they're going to continue work on their space sim titled 'dreadnaught' and possibly even announce a new IP at gamescom.
