Looks like it's your lucky day, @Rockshard PhD. Remember how only 3 weeks ago I mentioned you should just pirate Darius Burst and buy it when they inevitably re-release it, rather than spend 70 bucks on a used copy? Well, here ya go buddy. It's getting re-released on PS4, PS Vita and Windows PC as Darius Burst: Chronicle Saviour. However, as it turns out it has already been re-released 2 years ago on iOS as Darius Burst: Second Prologue. You can grab it off the App Store in English for 11 dollars.

Editing … Darius is a shmup like Gradius, right? Will there be an easy/very easy difficulty option? Would you describe it as being a hard game for people with very little exposure to that sort of game?

Editing … You can choose between Easy, Normal and Hard, can set your lives anywhere between to 1 and 6, and you have unlimited continues. Regardless of whether you use a life or continue, you respawn where you died. On Easy/Normal you get to keep all your upgrades, whereas on Hard they get lowered by 1 level. Still better than Gradius where they all get taken away from you (they might've changed that in later games, but I know the earlier games are notorious for that). So you'll definitely get through it and see all the content (which requires multiple playthroughs), but it might make for a pretty messy showing. Shmups have always been a genre that I wish I was good that. I wish I could flip a switch in my head and turn on my "in the zone" mode where I effortlessly dodge every bullet, and these games are no longer about surviving, but getting the highest score. Alas, I've never been able to reach that level. I've also never tried all that much, though. My favorite shmup is actually "Sigma Star Saga." It's a top-down action-adventure and sidescrolling space shooter RPG hybrid. It's totally playable for someone unfamiliar with the genre, but it has random encounters, which I know you're not too fond of. While controlling your character and shooting baddies on the surface, you'll randomly get summoned into space to do some space-ship shooting. There's also "The Guardian Legend" which the game took its inspiration from, but I never got around to playing it myself.
