I wish this game was longer, and had more depth to the battle system and mechanics. Maybe that would contradict its light-hearted feel, though. It also didn't really push me to think strategically until the last two boss battles, and even then, I still wouldn't call it challenging. Also, frame rate issues at times. Despite all of that though, it's a really cute concept that's well executed by some pretty funny dialogue. I beat it in one sitting, so clearly it ticked enough boxes for me! Will definitely get Costume Quest 2 at some point.

Editing … It's just so cheesy and adorable, how could anyone hate it? Bought the second one awhile ago but never played it. Maybe I'll play through it the week of Halloween.

Editing … Nah, jut kidding. The humour of it all was fantastic, I'm simply salty that I encountered a game breaking bug that prevented me from completing the game.

I've been meaning to play Costume Quest for the past several halloweens and never quite got round to it. Still, January's not too bad, right :P Costume Quest was a fun little adventure from beginning to end, which despite the simplistic battle system (Only one battle stamp per character?!?!?! :O ) kept me playing due to its charming art style and Halloween theme. I must say, I got a definite South Park: Stick of Truth vibe from it with its 'Children at play' theme. Although, considering the order of release, I guess Stick of Truth felt very "Costume Questy". Had a great time, although the battles did start to get repetitive (That's RPG's folks). I would wholeheartedly recommend this game to anyone who's looking for a fun, simple Rpg to occupy you for a few hours or if you just want something to play at Halloween.

    (P.S - That ninja sneak animation ^_^)

Editing … Which platform did you play it on? Sadly I experienced a game breaking bug when I played it last year on Xbox 360 that prevented me from finishing the game.

Editing … I played it on PS3. That's a shame, especially how close to the end it was :( Ithink I got it as part of Playstation Plus but I can't be sure (my memory is pretty terrible)

Even after downloading the patch I still can't complete #Costume Quest by #Double Fine Productions because they never fixed that french fries bug. Shame on you #Tim Schafer for releasing a faulty product, what a total waste of time.

A very nice and cute turn-based RPG with combat similar to the Mario RPGs.

A short, charming turn-based rpg that has that Double Fine Productions silliness. While the mechanics are extremely simple, amassing a collection of costumes with great over the top in battle styles and different abilities, as well as the short nature of the game, keeps things from getting too repetitive. While a little more substantial game would have been cool, I like this little romp as it is.

In "Costume Quest" you play as one of the twins Wren and Reynold. When your sibling is kidnapped by candy-craving monsters on Halloween, you set out on a journey to rescue the little pest lest you be grounded by your parents! Roaming the neighborhood with your friends, you collect candy, fulfil quests and search for new costume materials. Because it's by virtue of your awesome costumes and their special powers that you defeat monsters in JRPG-ish, round-based combat! Considering the very simple and straightforward gameplay, it is a good thing that "Costume Quest" doesn't overstay its welcome and can be completed in just a few hours. A bit like candy then: Short and sweet.

A fun romp down memory lane that's just filled with all sorts of goodies. The characters, dialogue, and setting are where the game shines. It falls short as the turn-based combat gets a bit repetitive and it's a bit on the easy side. I do believe they sacrificed the difficulty in favor of a younger audience but that shouldn't cause you to pass up the game. It's easily in my top ten console downloadable titles that I've played.
