Dawn of Sorrow is the one that I played more of but Aria of Sorrow is very similar. Anyway, unlike Symphony of the Night, you gain new powers but killing monsters until you get a soul from one of them. These souls grant new special abilities that make your character, Soma, stronger and more capable of exploring Castlevania and, the small surrounding town. There are a lot of fun bosses to be killed here but since this was an early DS game, you can't truly kill a boss until you draw a design on the DS's bottom screen which is a bit fun once you get the hang of it. This is a solid Metroidvania game and definitely worth your time if you're a fan of this type of game.
