I've come to really fucking hate this show. The writing (where it departs from the source material) is garbage, and not just *because* Takeuchi didn't write it--but because it's so inconsistent it's laughable. Prime example is about half way through the show, Usagi thinks something like, "oh no, Tuxedo Mask can't find out I'm Sailor Moon!!"... forgetting that he came to her house like three episodes prior saying to her (without her having transformed), "Sailor Moon, go save everyone." (So clearly he already knew, bozo.) Also, they really watered down all of the girls' personalities and friendships, instead focusing too much on her relationship with Mamoru. Unlike the original anime series, it follows the manga act-for-act, and the manga's fast pacing doesn't really translate to anime very well for some reason. Finally, the art and animation is all over the place. It used to vary from episode to episode, but toward the end, it varies greatly within the *same* episodes. Some scenes will be beautifully done and then others have me cracking up at the derp faces and elastic appendages. This last one I try to ignore, because at least it's definitely going to look a lot better for the Blu-Ray release. It all just screams "lazy reboot we can use to try to sell people more Sailor Moon merch" and the series doesn't deserve this kind of treatment.

At the same time, I still tune in every time a new episode goes up. idk why. I guess because I just care so much about Sailor Moon in general and I keep hoping it will get better. The Black Moon Arc will be starting soon... hope it's less disappointing (even though I'm already pissed they whitewashed Sailor Pluto).

tl;dr I hate this goddamn show but I'm still watching it. Ugh.

I LOVE THIS #Moonlight Densetsu

Really disappointed to learn that Crystal, like the original anime, switches frequently between animation directors. I'm not sure if this is a common thing in anime in general, but in Sailor Moon it caused serious inconsistencies in the quality of the art and Crystal appears to be following suit. I'm going to have a hard time going back to the animation director of Episode 2, which had some pretty awkward moments (not as bad as 3 though...), after this week's gorgeous episode. I wish Toei had more of a budget for this so they could use animators that didn't suck throughout. :(

Sailor Moon Crystal will be following the manga act-by-act, and will include (at least) through the Black Moon arc! Great news, and it somewhat bodes well for the possibility of Sailor Moon Crystal continuing on through later arcs.

Disappointed Sailor Jupiter won't be in the next episode! But I had forgotten that the Masquerade act was after the debut of Sailor Mars.

Friendly request to PLEASE support this anime by streaming it from an official source if you're going to watch it. <3 If the fans support it then there's hope for another season and I really want this to go beyond the first arc

Here's a helpful guide to the scope of Sailor Moon Crystal (just the first arc, as suspected) as well as all of the episode air dates. Holy crap, they're going to drag this out for a whole year. ;_;

I'm a little irked at seeing all the circle jerking on other sites about how "OMG THEY MADE USAGI LESS EXPRESSIVE!!" based on the first episode. I mean, imo, Usagi at the beginning of the series is easily one of the least interesting characters. Up until SuperS, literally every other scout is more interesting (yes, even Chibi-Usa) and that goes double for the villains, too. It makes me feel like I'm the only Moonie that didn't find Usagi's character integral to their enjoyment of the show/manga. o_O

Since I'm assuming that 26 episodes = only the first (aka worst) season, I'm hoping that they'll announce more seasons if these episodes do really well and attract a lot of viewers. The series doesn't get truly great until S (third season), and a manga-style reboot of SuperS (fourth) would just be phenomenal.
