Bionic Commando is one of the most underservingly underrated games of this generation. Sure, it didn't invent anything new, nor is it an AAA title that will be remembered for years, but it definitely deserves to be in the 80something ratings. The game is a third person shooter, but a good half of the gameplay revolves around the bionic arm, which allows you to swing around, grab elements of the environement and throw them at enemies, or use it as a whip. The ways of tackling enemies are varied, the gameplay and controls are very tight and well balanced and offer a real old-school challenge. The musics are beautiful and memorable, and even the plot has somewhat of a creepy twist.

Ugh, Bionic Commando deserved better. It's clear that the development team wasn't up to the scale the game strives for unfortunately. Not only are the mechanics kind of janky controls, the art design feels very lowest common denominator bland crap, from the silly gritty character design, boring post-apocalyptic urban environments, to the laughable dialogue, just a lot of juvenile "maturity" on display. Despite all that I still had some fun swinging around, but it's a tragically bad game nonetheless.
