Binary Domain captured the spirit of the 80s action movies gloriously, while also putting a distinct Japanese coat of paint over it and sprinkling it with some philosophical themes for good measure as a finishing touch, making it a surprisingly interesting experience, despite its slightly tiresome Gears of War gameplay structure.
Pros: Surprisingly great, believable and endearing characters, really strong finish to the game (both story and gameplay wise), just the right amount of cheese, diverse campaign, funny, some really great sections, well written and acted, interesting design choices, solid shooting (after you've upgraded your weapon) and cover mechanics, novel microphone integration...
Cons: ...shame it's piss poor in practice, every so often you'll find yourself playing an overly long shootout session in a boring arena, bland visuals, shooting in the first third of the game is not particularly fun, story takes its sweet time to get going

I wasn't expecting much from Binary Domain and so I was surprised how good it was. The story is good and it gets great near the end. The characters were good and they also have this meter to where if you do something wrong the trust goes down. The controls feel like Gears of War. I don't really like the melee. Graphics are pretty good and the game barley gets boring thanks to the fun of blowing robots to pieces. The multiplayer doesn't really add anything and isn't worth it. If you want a game with a good story and fun combat then this is a good choice.

Surprisingly well written, well acted, and well designed. It's a very Japanese take on Gears of War-esque third person shooters that somehow blends intentionally silly and absurd elements with extremely serious ones without feeling at all inconsistent. One of the true hidden gems of this console generation.
