Battlefield 3 is a first-person shooter video game developed by EA Digital Illusions CE and published by Electronic Arts. It is a direct sequel to 2005's Battlefield 2, and the eleventh installment in the Battlefield franchise. The game was released in North America on 25 October 2011 and in Europe on 28 October 2011 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. EA Mobile also confirmed a port for the iOS platform. The game sold 5 million copies in its first week of release, and received critical acclaim from most game reviewers. It is the first game in the series that does not support versions of Windows prior to Windows Vista as the game only supports DirectX 10 and 11. The PC version is exclusive to EA's Origin platform, through which PC users also authenticate when connecting to the game. The game's sequel, Battlefield 4, was released on 29 October 2013.     Even if Battlefield 3 appeared on consoles, let's face it--it's a PC multiplayer game. The interface and the 64-player maps could only be full implemented on a PC from the very beginning. However, I wouldn't mind if someone could simplify the keyboard controls...for my sake.

    The Singleplayer campaign is utter shite and a complete waste of time. Don't play.
    Now, onto the fantastic multiplayer (the reason why most buy this). It's great. It can be fast paced, it can be slow and tentative, it can be varied depending on your class. Engineers, medics, snipers and ammo supply all offer different roles within a team, and providing you don't focus on the number of kills you can attain and actually focus on winning the match you can have great fun playing a role in the greater battle. It's immensly satisfying, the guns are absolutely fantastic to use with top-notch sound effects, and the vehicles require precision to master. Some maps are simply awful, whilst some are really quite good. BF3 is a sold game

    UUUGGGGHHH. Sorry, that was just me moaning at how much potential Battlefield 3 had. Yes, the gameplay is fun, the maps are gigantic, and the presentation is OMGWTFAMAZING!, but there were so many fundamental errors that BF3 made that dumbs down its quality. The lack of the option to EXIT A DAMN MATCH AT THE END OF ONE is aggravating, and scavenging the Internet for instructions on how to control a helicopter confounds me. I especially hate the fact that despite EA's marketing shoving BF3's superiority to MW3, the campaign's plot structure is the EXACT SAME AS BLACK OPS. And don't get me started on those flashlights. Yes, the game is tons of fun to play, but the missteps that were taken are so big that it's too tough to ignore.

    It's amazing how certain games lose all their relevance over time. Battlefield 3 is one of those games. The single-player campaign is okay at best. The multiplayer mode had a ton of depth at the time. Unfortunately, people who want the most enjoyable experience would have to plunk down an extra $50 for the premium maps. It's not even worth purchasing, because the servers these days only support the non-DLC maps. Battlefield 3 had tons of potential, but it couldn't quite capture the same insane fun of other multiplayer games.

    The single player is a joke. Instead of using the series strenghts and focusing on wide open spaces, destructible environments and vehicular combat, it tries to become Call of Duty with terrible results. The only standout moment is the flying mission where you start on a plane carrier. Even though it's on-rail and scripted, it's still spectacular. But the rest is just a boring, scripted, uninspired, generic corridor Afghanistan/Iraq shooter. The graphics and multiplayer are ace though, but I miss the variety of environments from Bad Company 2.

    DICE is going all-in on this one and I have full confidence in their ability to deliver a great game. Building on the magnificent sound design of Bad Company 2, actually building a long and original single player and continuing on their legacy of great multiplayer battles I can't see how this game is going to fail.
