Just beat it and moved my score up to a 7.5. I'm happy I went back and gave it another shot. It's a fun game that doesn't overstay it's welcome or get repetitive. The writing sucks, but the game has a clean cut, simple feel. I'm surprised people are so down with the bosses. Killer Croc and the Poison Ivy bosses were some of the highlights of the game for me. I didn't even mind the Joker boss, though it was dumb of him to fall for the batclaw trick three times. The riddler trophies were so ridiculously easy to collect that I got over two thirds of them, but I actually kind of liked that. Asylum, City, and Knight have a good progression of complexity and maturity. It feels like there's an arc of sorts, though I'd say City feels a lot more similar to Asylum than it does to Knight.

Ranked as my 119th favorite game. Currently at 82 percent completion.

I'm at 32 percent completion. The gameplay's more my style now than when I first played it, but I prefer the writing, graphics, and controls in City and Knight. There's hardly a clever or likable line of dialogue to be found here. But the environments are nice and it's fun collecting riddler trophies and listening to the audio recordings. I already have half of the riddles. They're much easier to collect than in later games. I had to work some to get half of them in City. In Knight, by the end of the game I only had about 30. Right now Asylum's feeling like a 7/10. It almost feels like an elaborate demo for the later games.

Editing … At 50 percent completion now. The Joker stealth sequences are a good touch. I like collecting the Riddler trophies almost as much as in City. All the dialogue sucks though.

Editing … 71 percent completion. That Killer Croc bit in the sewers was really good. Reminded me of RE4. The Joker teeth and flowers you punch are dumb though, just busywork.

Editing … I got distracted like 2 1/2 hours in, which is dumb because I was really enjoying it. I need to get back into it, especially since City is part of my library backlog now too.

Editing … The scarecrow sections alone make this game (shows gamers their worst fear hehe). Quinn is way this that the other games. The only thing i didn't like was the final boss battle.

Arkham Asylum was easily one of the best Batman games of the last decade. Sure, the boss fights were...bad. However, the sheer exploration and stealthy gameplay is what truly immerses people into the gothic Batman atmosphere. This is one of my favorite modern games, by far.

The quintessential Batman experience. This is one of the few games out there that knows how to do collectibles properly. The Batman rogue gallery is spectacular all throughout the game with Scarecrow and Killer Croc having what may be the greatest interpretations of their characters to date. The topnotch voiceacting by the likes of Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy is just the spectacular cherry on top of this superhero cake.

The combat is fun for a while and it actually did stealth kinda well despite all the gargoyle hopping. Got boring by halfway through though. Not a fan of the writing style.

I have always loved Batman, and when I learned from a friend that a game let me play as him in Arkham Asylum fighting some of the most notorious villains in his rouge gallery I was hyped. The combat felt really smooth like most beat em ups. I loved how after a huge brawl you were put into a situation where you have to stealthy take down all of the guards. This is a game that I think is a must play of the 7th generation if you are a fan of batman or not.

@Pape Badiane, So, is this now still a beat 'em up? Can we change its category so simply? It has been ranked by 125 people after all. Don't want to mess up the database.

Editing … The fact that 125 people have ranked makes changing the genre problematic. But if the rest of the game is like the bit I played, there are no swords or sharp weapons and Batman fights with his fists, so it would make more sense as a beat 'em up imo. I know HnS are also characterized by individual levels that the game gives you scores for based on how fast you beat it, combo, amount of damage you took, etc. Is the scoring aspect also common in Beat 'em ups? If not, that would be another argument for Batman being a Beat 'em up.

Editing … The old beat-em ups had a scoring system yeah, God Hand also has its own kind. The lines between some of these genres do blur a bit, the Arkham games do play with a similar pace to something like God of War and have similar mechanics (on top of adventure stuff), but Batman punches and knocks people out which is beat-em up style.

Editing … For me the Arkham games are action adventure first , stealth second, in Asylum's case metroidvania third and in City/Origins case sandbox games third. I guess they're beat em up's too though. Technically City becomes a hack and slash for the last boss fight but that's not enough to put it in that category.

Fun to play as a superhero. Incredibly short, finished the enjoyable storyline in under 8 hours. Not blown away by it, but the main characters are well done and recognizable.
