What you all playing these days?

Now that I've completed #Assassin's Creed Origins and #Final Fantasy X HD, I'm going to get cracking on with a Persona 5 playthrough. I'm going to give the original Metal Gear games a go too. I'm going to draw the line at that, because Persona 5 is going to be an absolute monster to beat given my lack of free time these days.

Do you guys have anything on the backlog you want to tackle?

Slowly going to 100% that, probably. Can you believe its online play is still active? No trouble finding a full (6-player) lobby. Other games will launch and have like 3 active players.

Editing … Abysmal AI! You must've been reading my posts. Overall though it was actually really fun--wasn't a big fan of what went on through the ending, though. The game's a clear Mass Effect ripoff, with the same squad system and dialogue wheel and even the same method of sprinting, but maybe it's better than Andromeda. The combat's pretty gosh darned fun, offers a good number of challenges, and the abilities and teammates are fun to use. I got invested. Had fun killing aliens with Bill Murray by my side.

    2018 - Week 4 (Jan 22nd - Jan 28th)

Another week of limited game time.

Played some more Mass Effect. Wandered around the Nexus (Andromeda's equivalent to the Citadel) doing sidequests for an hour before the PS4 turned into a jet engine. A Google search reveals this as a common issue with the game, so yet another reason the PS4 has been a disappointment :/

Been on a bit of a superhero kick lately, ao decided to try Batman: Telltale Series. I enjoy these quick-time games (a la Fahrenheit, Beyond: Two Souls). I only played about half an hour, but I am intrigued to see how my choices impact the story. I'll stick with this one through February :)

I'm still working my way through my backlog of gaming podcasts too. I'm now caught up to the release of Prey. Slow progress, yea, but progress nonetheless.

    Games I'm thinking about:

Assassin's Creed Origins has been on my mind a lot lately. I really want to try it, but alas my goal of not buying games prevents it. More than that, i've been wanting to play ACIII again. Final Fantasy XV is calling to me, as are RPG's in general. Especially an open-world RPG. I heard God of War (Dad of War) has a release date, but it's long playtime and new style is turning me off. I have enough long games on my backlog to last me years. Had another look at my top 100 game list and remain fairly confident that it is full of solid choices. The fact I wanted to replay them all just reading through it proves that.

Editing … About a billion years ago I watched a friend play the Last Remnant for about an hour. When we weren't talking to each other about other stuff he was mostly yelling at his squad for healing the wrong person or attacking the wrong enemy, because the game is like Persona 3 if you didn't even directly control the MC. Meanwhile I mostly tried not to look at the TV so the frame drops wouldn't give me a migraine. When I asked him why he didn't just stop playing he said "It's not that bad." That sounds like a ringing endorsement to me!

    2008 - Week 3 (Jan 15th - Jan 21st)

    Nothing to report....

Didn't have any gaming time this week except a couple hours with FInal Fantasy X while my friends watched The Simpsons (that show is dull as dishwater now). I've played up until Mi'hen Highroad and having fun. I won the Blitzball Tournament after 9 minutes of overtime, which was neat. It's rare that I win it first try. I forgot how much I enjoyed the Sphere Grid system.

P.S I deleted Forge of Empires. Who wants to wait 4 hours for a building to be constructed? Lame-sauce

    2008 - Week 2 (Jan 8th - Jan 14th)

Spent a couple of evenings delving into my Christmas games. I've only played the prologue of "Mass Effect Andromeda", so can't really say too much on that, although the combat seemed improved from 3, so that's awesome. The auto-cover system seems a bit fiddly though, hope it doesn't become annoying. Looking forward to playing more, but I was distracted by my current favourite, "South Park: The Fractured But Whole". I'm about 5hrs in and having a great time. The humour is classic South Park and it's making me want to watch the show, so I guess they succeeded there. Combat is pretty much on par with the original. Haven't done much story, I've just been plundering houses for loot and strengthening my character. I like the constant dripfeed of rewards for tasks. Keeps you in that "5 more minutes" mindset.

Aside from those two, I've been continuing to play Forge of Empires whenever I have a couple of minutes to kill (on the bog). It's fairly meh, but it occupies my brain. I also played my first backlog game last night, "Princess Remedy in a World of Hurt". It's a free-to-play Steam game that plays and looks like an early NES adventure/shooter hybrid. I only got about 15 minutes with it, but I've yet to see where the "overwhelmingly positive" reviews come from. It's only meant to be about an hour long, so I'll see it through.

Had a couple of hours to kill when my fiancée was playing PS4 on Saturday, so I stole her Vita copy of Final Fantasy X HD. I've played up until the party leave Besaid. Final Fantasy X is one of my favourites, so it's great getting to revisit the game. She gave me her unused download code for X-2 HD as well, so I'm looking forward to some sphere-hunting on the go too ^.^ Overall it's been a fairly fun week :)

Editing … I actually prefer Andromeda's combat as well. In 3, it felt more actiony than the previous games, but your character's movements were still incredibly stiff, so it felt awkward, where in Andromeda you can move around and deal with enemies much faster, so I actually prefer it. I've been playing South Park as well, about 20 hours in and probably near the end, and it's been awesome. I prefer it's combat over the original, and I'm finding it just as funny.

    2018 - Week 1 (Jan 1st - Jan 7th)

I'm going to restart my backlog challenge on Friday, now that life is a bit more settled. I got a bunch of games for Christmas, which doesn't really help matters, but my total backlog is about 540 games. I'm planning on playing them shortest-longest. However, I am unwilling to toss my new games to the bottom of the heap, so I will be playing those also. For the curious, I got Mass Effect: Andromeda, XCOM 2, Mirror's Edge Catalyst and South Park: The Fractured But Whole.

Gaming-wise, all I've played is a smartphone game: Forge of Empires. It's a Farmville-esque management game that favours micro-transactions, so I doubt it will hold my attention for too long, but it's fun enough and good for 5 minute bursts which is more in line with my limited free time. Real gaming begins soon though :D I can't wait! :)
