Anime (Japanese: アニメ, ) is Japanese hand-drawn or computer animation. The word is the abbreviated pronunciation of "animation" in Japanese, where this term references all animation without regards to the nation of origin. Outside Japan however, anime is used to refer specifically to animation from Japan or as a Japanese-disseminated animation style often characterized by colorful graphics, vibrant characters and fantastical themes. Arguably, the stylization approach to the meaning may open up t... View more [Wikipedia]

Well, with my tv broken and my plans to return to console gaming thrown into disarray, i guess I could go back to watching some shows. Any of you guys watching anything fun?

Master Crash Oh, I almost forgot. Do check, if you have the time, Steins;Gate. It's a bit fun. Nothing special tho.

Silent Gamer Yea, it's a great show. My favourite thing about Steins;Gate is

Dr Eggnog I like FLCL and Kyle likes it even more. It's weird, I'd say more weird than Noein but less weird than Lain. Also, it just hit me how weird it is that the one person here other than me who's seen Noein is nod (though klem tried it once and didn't like it).

Marcone Antelius Crunchyroll is more concerned with bringing in new shows than actually working on their product. The Xbox One app hasn\'t worked in almost 3 years and the message board is full of complaints, not one single response from any CR employee. Sure they bring anime to the masses, but its at the cost of not focusing on pleasing their customers. And now they\'re big project is VRV which is a bunch of subscription services in one place, which STILL requires the appropriate app to operate. At one point I unsubscribed because I didn\'t want to watch it on my laptop\'s screen, when I signed back up they treated me like a new customer and gave me a month free? Wtf? Okay. If I didn\'t have this new desktop I would just unsubscribe again.

I wonder if you guys would indulge me in a poll I wish to know if you guys prefer subs or not. I'm pretty much in favour of subs, but if dubs are done well, I won't object.

Please click like on the comment you most agree with!

rockshard PhD "I used to be a sub purist, but then I grew up and got over it." Ouch. That would get even the best of us.

Riley Ivy I mostly do subs, because most of my favorite series have not that great of dubs, but if I hear a dub is good, then I give that a try.

Dr Eggnog I'll watch either really. In junior high it was always dubs but now I just go with whatever feels more natural in the moment or whatever's available. I'm watching Kodocha dubbed cause Digibro said it's one of the only shows he prefers dubbed because Laura Bailey's performance as Sana hits it out of the park. He was totally right!

Today I found an anime with so much energy that it's physically tiring. It's a little like Junie B Jones books meets Fruits Basket. The school war stuff would be a little dark if it wasn't so over the top and crazy. Not sure yet if I like it or if it's too much for me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rx6sTPhYNN4

Dr Eggnog This show is good at mixing in serious/sappy moments without dragging them on too long. It uses mood whiplash intentionally. There are moments where I'm not even sure if I'm supposed to take them seriously or not.

Husky Wing I never saw the anime, but I remember reading some Kodocha.

Dr Eggnog Don't know much about the differences, but I think the anime is more stretched out and crazy.

Well, I thoroughly enjoyed my morning of watching Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak High School and I am in the mood to try some other anime. Total n00b to the world of anime, so if anyone has anything that I just HAVE to watch, lemme know I have only ever watched Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, Death Note and a little of Sword Art Online. Apart from that I've dabbled here and there in different shows, but never made it past 1 or 2 episodes. Please only recommend outstanding ones I don't have time to try all the good ones, I have games to play

Husky Wing and this underrated classic Spirited Away

Dr Eggnog Spirited Away's the most obvious place to start. If Silent finishes the bizarre cult show Lain before watching Spirited Away that would be hilarious. That would be like picking Blue Velvet before Star Wars.

Silent Gamer I've seen Spirited Away guys I mean, it IS ranked as my #2 anime movie Saw it in the cinema back in 2003. I am new to anime series, but I've seen a ton of Ghibli movies.

Richard Pale I'm confused VolTRH your entire all time favourite films list is live action.

Silent Gamer ^ Although with the exception of Star Wars, they are probably the most cgi-heavy movies you are likely to find

Vol TRH My favorite films list is strictly live action, yes, because I didn't want that list and favorite animated movies lists to be practically identical. It used to be only animated movies until they added a list for that.
