Android is a Linux-based operating system designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers. Initially developed by Android, Inc., which Google backed financially and later bought in 2005, Android was unveiled in 2007 along with the founding of the Open Handset Alliance: a consortium of hardware, software, and telecommunication companies devoted to advancing open standards for mobile devices. The first Android-powered phone was sold in October 2008. Andr... View more [Wikipedia]

Urgh, why do updates always fuck everything up. Stop moving shit to the top of the screen. Smartphones are getting bigger. That does not mean that my thumb grows concurrently, you bastards!

rockshard PhD There's no way to disable "new" and "recently used" in the app drawer but I've been thinking maybe this is a good thing since it prevents the A icons from being at the top of the screen.

rockshard PhD The problem with the weather widgets on smaller icon sizes was this: the graphics displaying the weather for each hour/day would get cut off between the top and bottom edges of the widget, unless you stretch the widget higher, which results in a lot of unnecessary empty space above and below the graphics. On the hourly widget this isn't do much a problem. But in the daily widget, the graphics are smaller and the background isn't transparent, so it looks a lot worse with all that blank space.

rockshard PhD The text is smaller in the opaque one, that must be why.

One wonderful thing about the Android market (and I don't mean marketplace): if there's a popular game you want, someone may have actually gone through the effort to remake it, even if they couldn't release it on the Google Play Store.
Doom 3 BFG has a paid version for Nvidia Shield Tablet & TV, but someone else made a free Android port (non-BFG, I believe) as well. Other games like Metal Gear Solid, Superhot, Half-Life: Opposing Forces, and Rocket League have remakes, incomplete remakes, or ripoffs that changed the name and none of the mechanics.

Husky Wing They don't shy from the fact that they're ripoffs. Nay, the familiar artstyle is a selling point! "By the way, this is actually just my Mirror's Edge fan game ;3"

Preinstalled apps I've hidden: (since they can't be deleted)

Preinstalled apps I chose not to hide:

That's odd, I hid Google Voice Search, but I don't see it in my list of hidden apps. I broke it?

Husky Wing I'll bet you can enable the voice search in the Google app again.

Aw gee, I just found out that Google's killing off Google Now. Being replaced with Pixel Launcher.
While the Google Play store will tell you that your non-Pixel phone is incompatible with the launcher, that's just not true. You can download it from anywhere else, and it'll work fine.

rockshard PhD No, wait. There was another one. The screenshots had a windows desktop style start menu and home screen icons arranged in various shapes like an X or a plus.

Hey, er, what are your favorite third-party app markets? Specifically ones of the "paid apps for free" variety :^)
I already use Aptoide and AppCake, and Amazon Underground provides a lot of sick paid stuff for free, but I haven't found a functioning free download of Portal for Nvidia Shield yet. And like, I already own it on PC, and I don't want to spend $10 to be able to play this 2-hour game on the go. A more up-to-date download of Vice City would be neato too, since the ones I found weren't updated to allow it to be moved to the SD card. Also the Max Payne and Bully I found were broked too.

Husky Wing also Dead Space Mobile and Mass Effect Infiltrator thank you muchly :^)

An Android launcher I downloaded a while ago gave me this really cool background, and even though I didn't care for the theme (and uninstalled it), I kept the wallpaper.
Recently I accidentally changed wallpapers. Don't remember how it happened, but the old one wasn't saved anywhere, so it was gone.
I start Googling it on Bing and Google, trying to find it. I reinstalled every launcher I've tried, but none have it. I suspect it used to be a Bing wallpaper, or maybe a Nova theme.
Downloaded an undeleter and went through my system's image cache.
    Found it! \o/

I have a friend asking if there are any good add-ons that can hide inn-app purchase pop-ups. She used to use "Lucky Patcher"

Husky Wing You covered practically nothing. "I personally think you shouldn't do this, here's an out of context sentence aiding my statement." I think we came to an agreement, actually. It's like you said-- "You only fixed it"

Husky Wing I'm not pretending the ads are gone, the ads are gone. The analogy works perfectly. All of the improvements are there, the problems are fixed. Just as engineering works--find a problem, create a solution.

Husky Wing I googled it with Bing, I get Paul McCartney and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaBq2weewnQ
