Behehe just doing some more Amiga in memory of Terry(it was his funeral this week btw) and Birds of Prey was one of my favourite games back in the day. The intro was so realistic it had a disc all of it's own, no gameplay, just an entire disc for the intro.

Yep, it's absolute turd today lol. But honestly, back in like 1991 or whatever this would blow your mind, it was Top Gun in your bedroom.

When I was but a wee lad my parents split up and my mother got with this guy named Terry. Terry was a really good bloke and he loved his Commodore Amiga 500, he showed us this amazing machine that kicked the ass out of Sega and Nintendo. Back then they were like £600 in the late 80s early 90s so it was an absolute fortune. But my brother and I nagged enough and got our own Amiga 600 as a joint present for Christmas.

To this day I swear the Amiga is the greatest gaming machine ever made. Sure, the PS2 is epic, but the Amiga did it before big bucks and the gaming industry was massive. It was a special time when a person could code a game in their bedroom and it would go on to become one of the biggest series ever like Championship Manager. Gaming was different then.

I had my first real drink with Terry too. He used to get drunk every Saturday with Vince, a really good friend of my mothers, and these days he's my friend too. So at aged 13 he took me to Vinces to join in and I drank like, 6 little beers and threw up everywhere lol. But I remember the male bonding, we all just chatted shit and laughed and I felt like a man not a kid.

Terry died of cancer last month and although I haven't seen him in a while, we were friends on social media still. I'm a bit sad, he was only 62 :(

But everytime I fire up an Amiga game I will always think of Terry. I'm not that emotional usually, I mean, people fucking die everyday. I don't particularly miss even my grandparents much even though I do remember them fondly. But I'm genuinely sad Terry died, I liked him, and he was too young to go.

So next time you guys play an old game from your childhood or have a beer just think of Terry. The guy who influenced me to basically be who I am today. God, I love Amiga and beer!

Editing … My Amiga memories are also tied closely to a friend I had. We were the same age and had a blast with the machine. I like those memories … where we played Indiana Jones for months without ever getting tired of it … where we often competed in the Winter Olympics and played together in Silkworm … where we have always been stuck on the first three screens of Flashback – I've never seen more of the game until I played it on emulator, decades later. There are some titles I specifically associate more with him than with the Amiga, just because he was always the one to play them; like Vermeer … I'm sorry for your loss.

Editing … Certain childhood memories are my best memories. Things were different as kid's, things felt so big, important and fun, and friends were best friends. I like being an adult but I'd sure love to experience the magic of a kids mind again.

Editing … It's a totally different time of your life … obviously, but I mean … the way you take in information and form those memories is different, as far as I can tell; the way you stop learning as an adult and rather think in "now unchangable" rules … I miss those times.
