I've been playing Alundra this evening because I saw somebody rank it on the main page earlier. It's alright, not my cup of tea but it's a solid game.

I couldn't get into Alundra back in the day but soon forgot why it didn't grab me. I did like Landstalker a lot, so recently I decided to give it another shot and beat it. Well, the one thing that really disappoints about Alundra is the storytelling. It takes up a lot of space, and while the themes explored are potentially intriguing it mostly just falls flat due to the characters acting in such an unconvincing manner, and many events feel like devices to mold the game into a typical game story; there's lots of artificial gating and no sense of urgency whatsoever. Gameplay fares much better though, exploration for collectables is done rather well and dungeon designs are on par, sometimes even better than what inspired them.
