Meh. This movie was easily the worst of the Alien series. The characters were incredibly stupid to the point where it annoyed me and I didn't give a shit about any of them (except maybe the female lead, but that's about it). The movie had way too many unnecessary scenes, it could have easily been a 90 minute movie instead of over 120 minutes. Didn't really like the "human"-like design of one of these aliens in the middle of the movie. It wasn't suspenseful in the slightest. During the movie I thought: "Well, it's not that great, but at least there aren't any unnecessary love scenes, so that's a plus." and guess what happened a few minutes after I had that thought? An unnecessary shower love scene, just fuck me fam. The "best" scene in the movie was the fight on the flying spacecraft (the one with the crane). Many scenes in the movie were too hectic, while other scenes seemed unnecessarily long, so the pacing just doesn't feel right. There is also something that I disliked about the "atmosphere" of this movie... Prometheus was just better in every way. Oh, and I hated the ending. 5/10

    Well that was sad.
The philosophy and general writing lacked subtlety, the action was overbloated, the horror was just amateur, and the non-Fassbender characters were flat ('cept Tennessee was aight). The movie wanted to be a blend of horror Alien, action Aliens, and philosophical Prometheus, and failed on all three counts. Pretty sure there were a few enjoyable scenes, and the cinematography and lighting was really great at times, but, uh, boy do I never want to rewatch this ever again. I should promise to myself that I won't.
SpoilerScott really had no faith in his audience if he thought that twist would have any impact.
It's clear that Ridley Scott wanted to create a smart story with Prometheus and Covenant, but boy are the scripts for both movies just dumb as nails. "Dumb" is really the key word for these two scripts.

Oh boy. I was really hoping to love this, but there was nary a character in this movie that I gave a damn about, and the most interesting curiosities that I might have had for a sequel to Prometheus are largely ignored here. What it does carry over from Prometheus are the "supposedly intelligent characters making amazingly boneheaded decisions" routine. Alien: Covenant mostly plays like a mediocre 80s slasher flick, but without the low budget charm that often makes those movies dumb fun.

Maybe a director's cut can turn this into a more interesting movie, but as it is, this personally feels like the least re-watchable movie in the mainline series. I really can't believe that Ridley Scott thought he was going to turn heads with this movie, and in retrospect makes it seem silly that he ever had a problem with James Cameron's Aliens (or any other movie in the series). I expected so much more out of this.

Editing … Hehe...You're not the only one, as the movie did get some positive reviews, but I agree much more with the negative reviews this time. If anything, the movie does end in a cliffhanger that admittedly makes me very interested in how it will eventually play out. Ugh....I'm in too deep to not want to see the next movie.

Alien was never my favourite movie (I always preferred #Predator) but over the years, I have gotten into them more. And Prometheus definitely surprised me. Looking forward to the sequel! :)

Editing … No idea Gries but Wikipedia tells me this: The poem concerns the Biblical story of the Fall of Man: the temptation of Adam and Eve by the fallen angel Satan and their expulsion from the Garden of Eden. Milton's purpose, stated in Book I, is to "justify the ways of God to men" so take that as you will.
