Favorite Games of 2004

2004 was the year of the engine: games were released that used the brand-new Source and id Tech 4 engines, and the Unreal 3 engine was showcased on the tenth Electronics Entertainment Expo; preparing gamers for a new generation of gaming that upped the ante in terms of never-before-seen visual quality. Sony released the PSP in Japan while its competitor, the Nintendo DS, found a new home in Japanese and US territories. And for retro fans, there was the new Atari Flashback. On a side note: this is also the year when Peter Molyneux was introduced into the Hall of Fame of the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences, his achievements for the industry finding well-deserved acknowledgment.
