Favorite Gaming Soundtracks

The impact of a score starts with you humming the background music of the level that you played last night over and over again. It affects you while you play, when the pace is raised for an action sequence and lowered for a cognitive puzzle - often without you noticing. It helps to transport you into the amazing - or horrifying - virtual landscapes, and it accompanies you while you explore them. But when you notice the goose bumps on your arms, induced by the orchestra underlining a heart-breaking cutscene or the bone-cracking move you just pulled off - only then you will realize how important a Video Game Soundtrack is. And I didn't even mention its interactive aspect yet; a mating unlike with any other medium.

Bottom line, a game gotta have a damn good soundtrack to get in my favorite games list.

Editing … I'm a big fan of Katamari on the Rocks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMH49ieL4es One of the best fun game pieces I know. Other games might have better scores overall, but this song (like everything else in the games) is just wonderfully happy and cathartic.

Editing … I keep forgetting about Katamari. It's one of those games that I keep avoiding because it has something to do with a lazy king and...rolling junk? I love the game to death, but yeah, that weird concept is always hard for me to grasp whenever I sit down to play video games. Lol. Great music.

Editing … I just wish that cleaning my room was that easy. I know Japanese people are good at running that washcloth across the floor, but I have absolutely no madskills in cleaning. Sigh...

Editing … It's a game about a king who goes on a drunken bender and messes up the world and needs his son to clean up after him. Then the second game is literally about them making another game because the fans demanded it (which is literally what happened in real life). It's glories in its own silliness, which is a big reason why it works so well.

Had to update to reflect the awesome soundtracks released recently from NieR:Automata and Persona 5. Automata nearly dethroned Bastion as my favorite, but not quite.

Editing … Haha...I just got on here to update the same two soundtracks. I just finished Persona 5 and Nier: Automata back to back, and was so impressed with them. I think I'm going to finally get around to playing Bastion.

Persona 3 is my favorite game but I don't like its music half as much as that of Silent Hill 2 and Final Fantasy VII, and what's so special about Chrono Trigger's soundtrack?

Editing … "What's so special about Chrono Trigger's soundtrack"? Umm...everything? It's a masterpiece. This coming from a professional composer. Also since it's #1, it must be you who is missing something.

Well how about that. I refreshed the page for my favorite gaming soundtracks since the page wasn't responding and my list inexplicably self-destructed. Back to square one I guess.

Editing … And jfc, what is with people's comments showing up in lists completely different from the ones they were clearly originally made in? Here we have a list for gaming soundtracks and there are comments from two years ago about Pink Floyd albums. I'm telling ya @Papissama, THE ONLY GOOD BUG IS A DEAD BUG!

Editing … DUDE, THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME AROUND 8 HOURS AGO. I was like, what the fuck?!?!? Just everything on that list GONE. I had no idea what I even had on the gaming soundtracks list so I had to use some hardcore muscle memory to get it back and even then I think I forgot one or two.
