Favorite Games of 2003

The by now $10 billion dollar industry of video gaming was booming in 2003. RPG giants Square and Enix merged into one bigger company; larger award ceremonies were held; MMORPGs were already on the multiplayer horizon; and Valve released the first stable version of Steam. As the need for an organized parental control system was strong, the PEGI was formed - one European content rating system replacing numerous national ones. As for actual content: Half-Life 2 was unveiled; the PSP was shown; the GBA SP and N-Gage were released; the WonderSwan ended its 4-year lifespan; and Nintendo finally discontinued the NES and SNES - can you believe it?! The Famicom had a run of a good 20 years in Japan!
