Favorite Games of 1989

After japanese gamers enjoyed the early hits found on the Sega MegaDrive and TurboGrafx-16 for over a full year, 1989 was the year in which this first wave of 16-bit entertainment swapped over to North America. Some of these quality games were so popular that, even 20 years later, their sequels would be very active and alive. Examples include the first in a long-lasting sports series; a fantasy RPG that boomed in Japan; the first commercially successful god game; and a record-breaking non-violent game with a big future. Further hardware releases were the Power Glove accessory for the NES, the Atari Lynx, as well as the legendary Game Boy - the first handheld device that used cartridges instead of built-in games.
