Favorite 6th Generation Games

The sixth generation of games is when 3D graphics finally came to a fully complete form, DVDs became standard and fledgling online experiences began. With thanks to the Sega Dreamcast as its origins leading to Sony's Playstation 2, Microsoft's Xbox and the Nintendo GameCube. It is often credited as the last innocent gaming generation from the open-world sandbox boom in Grand Theft Auto III, to the epic scale of first-person view in Metroid Prime and refining controls to optimum levels in Resident Evil 4. This generation was famously known as setting online standards with Xbox Live on Halo 2 and for an abundance of critically acclaimed RPGs such as Final Fantasy X and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. So list some of your favorite games to come from the consoles that kicked off the millennium and share on social.

Oh, the generation lists are now Top 25+25 ones too.

Sandy Vich I KNOW! I just discovered this. Papissama is going to give me a heart attack with these surprises. Shit, what else am I missing around here?

Sandy Vich Papissama, will this apply to the "films by decade" lists at some point as well? I'd find those much easier to fill out with 50 entries than with games.

My list was almost completely auto-generated from my All Time Favorites. Games were just so much more fun back then. So many great one-offs/series that are now dead, or games that did get next-gen sequels that simply weren't as good. I miss old Ubisoft, Capcom, Level-5... I miss 3D platformers and mid/high-budget JRPGs. This gen will probably remain my fav for the rest of my life, unless VR somehow manages to change everything and we actually get to jack in to virtual worlds with our nervous system hooked up to a machine.

GTA Vice City and Resident Evil 4 behind Shin Megami Tensei, Super Smash Bros. Melee and Kingdom Hearts? You people are a strange lot. But hey, Silent Hill 2's in the Top 5 (so far), so that's good. And I'm sure one user here will be absolutely *delighted* by FFX's high ranking.

Husky Wing You do know just how weeb this userbase is, right?

msg . Have you played Persona 4 Mike? I agree with you about smash, kingdom hearts etc but SMT games are actually really good.

There was actually an Xbox version of RollerCoaster Tycoon. The things you learn from auto-formed lists.

The 6th generation of consoles was excellent, and there was always so much variety. I think the fact that most of these series are still continuing today is a testament to that And there are still so many great looking games from that gen that I want to play!

Alexander the Great Aargh making a new list on a mobile sucks.

I can't pick Street Fighter III (or 3rd Strike for that matter). I knew this stupid merging was a shitty idea.

Antsy Banger It's not even consistently shitty since you can rank FF2 and Pirates here.

Lol, Final Fantasy V counts. Sure, why not. I also love that Metal Gear Solid 3 is tied with Metriod Fusion and Klonoa 2, the latter of which I barely know about. Bet that won't last.

Most importantly though, GO PERSONA!

Galrauch Smith But Resident Evil 1 can't be chosen

Ice The Retro Kid Lol I am this sites no.1 Klonoa fan. That's my fault for having Klonoa 2 high up that long XD, it's an amazing 2.5D platformer on PS2, it's a must play before you die and it puts new 2.5D platformers to shame.

free fall Klonoa 2 is a fantastic game, I wish I could have had room on my list for it.

What is the criteria for this list? Why can I add The Sims but not Shogun: Total War? Should be able to add Planescape: Torment too since it came out after the Dreamcast.

Magus Magus That would filter out several Dreamcast games, so probably not a good idea!

free fall Ah silly me, I forgot there are other countries than the USA again. You get what I'm saying though.

Antsy Banger Well, it means older PC games get less attention until we have "favourite PC games of x decade" and such lists.
