I kinda like the idea of No Smoking Day. The odds are stacked, but I say good on ya if you did actually get it off the ground and make a dent on something. From what I hear, they don't look like the kind who'd simply be paying lip service to a cause. It just may not turn out to be a waste of time after all!

Birthdays are the best holiday because there's so many of them in a year, cake and parties all the time.

Editing … No idea what IHOP is but that sounds about right. Pancake day is to pancakes, what Bonfire Night is to fireworks, Halloween is to crazy costumes, St Patricks day is to drinking and - I assume - Thanksgiving is to eating turkey. An excuse for that awesome thing, I love it.

Editing … I'm kind of confused about birthdays counting as a holiday. Would've thought they wouldn't count since it's a different day for everyone.

Editing … It's a dual category - Holiday event/Celebration. Birthday is obviously a celebratory day that everyone (well, most of us) enjoys each year. It might not occur on the same day for everyone, but it will happen for everyone at some point during the year. Not only that, but the day itself is very special and it usually means something for the person who's having it and those around him/her celebrating it. So, while it might not be a holiday per se, I reckon, it's perfectly fine to list it in this list.

Editing … I can see how it kind of fits but at the same time a personal celebration that's a non event outside your circle of friends/family seems a bit different to me. I don't feel like ranking it myself even though I really like birthdays.

Editing … What about national holidays/celebrations as opposed to the ones that are celebrated across the world? I'm grasping here, but you can understand where I'm going with this. If we take into account the number of people participating in the celebration, birthday is right there at the top. The fact that it occurs on different dates for most shouldn't really diminish its importance for this list.

Black Friday at #6? Some of you ENJOY a holiday when getting bulldozed and trampled by crazed soccer moms is the norm, which glorifies unadulterated consumerism, and which annually cuts more and more into time that retail employees should be able to spend with their families? [Sorry, I kind of hate Black Friday after this year's shenanigans in particular] Cyber Monday is clearly superior.

I like holidays in which Steam has sales or I get gifts. I don't celebrate any religious holidays (Christmas is not the birthday of your Christ it's a week of Steam sales, gifts and snow ;) )
