Okay, this is the Luc Besson I know and love. The amount of character building achieved in the first half with pretty much nothing but the musical score and slight visual clues is exceptional. I felt connected to the two leads immediately and I was already feeling like I understood them. The music drives this film and you can almost sense where the plot is turning long before you ever see it on screen. The camera work is some of the most engaging I have seen in this type of film. The sense of space is altered with some neat perspective changes and prop placement, instilling drama and tension when it is needed. Jean Reno gives a fantastic performance and it was refreshing to see him steer clear of the stern, no-nonsense character tropes often seen from these types of characters. The interaction between the two leads felt genuine and I'm not gonna lie, it left me feeling a little emotional. I'm glad I finally sat down to watch this :)
